VMK newbie

I just signed up for VMK yesterday. I've never done anything like this before, so I'm kinda lost.

I have my player, a few clothes, and a room with some furnishings. I have put together 3 music mixes, done the jungle cruise once, tried the fireworks (unsuccessfully) once. I also rode Alice and Peter Pan, and tried to get the sword with my 2 pins, but that didn't work. Oh, and I tried a few quests. I did one and got a Mickey pin. I tried the Peter Pan one, but I keep getting stuck on the fill in the blanks. I found out in another post that I have to try adding more words or doing it correctly with punctuation and caps.

So I am still shown as a Guest. I requested the name CrazyBlondeChick. Apparently it was available, but it didn't show. How long will that take?

Welcome to the DIS and to VMK!

The best thing to do to help yourself is to become familiar with the VMK Players Guide, which is a sticky at the top of the thread list. Go to the first post in the thread, which servers as a Table of Contents. In there, you will find answers to many quests, lists of things that are released or retired, helpful links, suggestions, and a host of useful stuff.

In game, if you need help, just ask by saying, "Would someone please help me with ______?". Also, if you see someone with CL_ in front of their names, they are community leaders and are there to help out. I am CL_DaraSue in game. I am usually on in the evening, so send me a PM here and I will meet up with you to show you around.

Initial things you should do (btw, you did a great job already, just figuring out what you figured out!):

1. Go to each shop and "open" that shop for yourself. For example, go to the Emporium on Main Street and find the register. Your cursor will turn to a hand. Double-click on that register and you will then be able to shop from the Emporium without having to go there (everything except Specials).

2. Find all the NPCs, or Non-Playing Characters. They hand out credits. As in the real world, credits make the virtual world go round, too. The friends are more important, but the credits sure don't hurt! Esmerelda lives in the Emporium, for example. Just double click her and she will reward you. You can do this every 12 hours, so do it once when VMK first opens then again 12 hours later to double up!

Welcome to VMK!! I am sure we will meet up in the game and i would be happy to add you to my friends list. Be careful, lol, this game is very addicting. We are always glad to welcome new players. My biggest tip is to check the VMK Dis boards everyday for new things you might miss and the trade board for something you just might have that someone wants and vica versa. Its a great time! Oh and about your vmk name being accepted.. it can take up to a week if you request your own name. You will get a notice when you log on that either your name has been changed to whatever you requested, or that you need to choose another name. I hope you get what you want the first time!

Welcome to VMK and DIS! I hope you enjoy both. I noticed in your signature you have a trip to DLR coming up. Make sure you read all about the in-park quests (and maybe even spoiler answers, if you want) and about purchases at the park that give you VMK cards, Before you go! There are some special VMK items that you can only get if you go to a park and get a card with a code there. They can be especially handy for your own collection, or for trading.
