Today I was in my room, and I previously named it, ' Hanukkah Joys.' I then got dc and a minute later after I dc, VMK boot everyone who was in my room. That got me very upset because I was trying to get best guest room. Then when I got back on I got a message from VMK saying, ' Your room title is unacceptable. Please change it. ' I got so upset....If you are allowed to say Hanukkah...why cant you say it? That got me very upset today VMK! Just like to have a shout out :sad1:

There are many of us who cannot understand why it is ok to celebrate Christmas on VMK, but not Hanukkah....and also, why they boot a room filled with people when the owner was not there -- when we have closed in VMK before in one of MickeysMusic's rooms, when she was not on for the entire night!

Just makes no sense to me...VMK is not consistent at all. :confused3

Frankly I don't get it either. I have a Christmas room, and it's titled "Christmas Room" (original, I know ;) ). It's full of the things sold at Christmas, plus a blue soldier I traded for. I've had people in and out of it off and on almost every time I visit it. Never had a problem. I guess my point is it's not fair that VMK sells a bunch of Christmas items and lets anyone display them, but for people of the Jewish faith to have a Hanukkah room, they have to create one with their imagination, only to be shut down anyway. I've been a Christian all my life, and I love my Christmas room for reasons beyond it's cute (never mind that it mostly shows the commercial side of the holiday, but anyway), so I'm not exactly going to be offended by a Christmas room or people celebrating that holiday in VMK. But I also wouldn't be offended by a Hanukkah room. I guess my point is if VMK can sell a pin commemorating Hanukkah, then they should allow people to have a Hanukkah room as well.

Ok, that is wrong and also mean. 1,000,000 christmas rooms were during "Christmas". Hanukka, of couse to me it just seems like staff dont like hanukka. I will send in a complaint for you.

I am Jewish and celebrate Hanukkah. Reading this made me EXTREMELY upset. :sad2:

Aww, thanks for your support. :) Although we don't celebrate Christmas, we do enjoy the VMK Christmas items -- and we enjoy lights at the holidays too. MickeysMusic has designed a menorah out of blue heartless hamper chairs... she did this because she truly enjoys this holiday (what's not to enjoy about Christmas and Hanukkah? Lots of gifts -- of course, not only gifts...lol).

If they are not going to let you do something, they should just be consistent about it.

I've seen people get boot for saying "king of kings." Any religion is totally cast out of VMK. The Christmas that they celebrate in there is not 'real' Christmas but 'commercialized' Christmas. Christmas has become dereligionized and dejesused and became all about trees, Santa, Snowmen, and presents. It is an Atheistic Christmas, a religious holiday totally raped (Mods, please edit that if it is not allowed: I just can't think of a better word to describe it).

Hanukkah, on the other hand, has not been commercialized to the extent of Christmas. This, in fact, is a good thing, seeing as how the message of the Christian holiday was destroyed by commercialism.

I'm still wondering how VMK can allow bay be, taken, but God of any religion is totally out.

EDIT: I'm just letting you know that they hate all religions, but want to market off of Atheist Christmas.

VMK Staff Say They Do Not Want People To Say There Religions So That Is Why Every One Got Boot.

This is not the first time we all have talked about Hanukkah and Christmas, so this could not be the reason. Besides, the message stated that everyone was boot from the room because the room owner was not there. But again, they are so not consistent with this.

wow, having christmas but not hanukkah? that's just plain unfair.

possibly they do it for your ' protection ' bc there could be some nazis there and you know how they hate that holiday @_@

I agree, but I don't like how you called the commercialized Christmas an "Atheist Christmas" because for one it's very contradictory, but it's not like VMK is saying things during the holidays like "there is no God!" or "don't believe in Christ" because when I think of Atheism that is what comes to mind, and thats what it is.. Atheism is a religion that states there is no higher power whether it be God, Buddha, or who ever. I think we should just call it "commercialized Christmas" from now on :). I don't think that VMK is partial to any religion in particular at all.. they don't want people using "King of Kings" in their signatures or whatever, so they won't let people have a "Hannuka (sp?) Celebration" room.. it's just fair in my opinion. I don't see any reason that VMK has given us to believe that they discriminate against any religions.. it's been stated before that what VMK releases for holidays is strictly a commercialized belief of what Christmas or any other holiday is, and i believe that is true. If someone has something religious in their signatures, theres always going to be that one person or group of people who hassles the religious person and disagrees with it, which could end up in verbal attacks. I think the VMK staff are just trying to eliminate that and say "OK, no religion in VMK" that is just so much easier than having hundreds of complaints a day saying "my son/daugter got called a racial/religious slur, why would you staff allow that talk in VMK?" that just gives Disney a bad image which they obviously don't want

Very well said! ::yes::

I'm sorry they did that MickeysMusic. I understand that having been influenced by many religions and cultures. I haven't been on VMk in awhile but I'm not sure I would be missing much (other than my friends!). I especially don't miss all of the degrading stuff on VMK. Christmas ought to be realized as a Chrisitan holiday, and not a present receiving day. This really puts to shame Disney. I know several Jewish people and they really enjoy Hanukkah, not because of presents. But of their faith and tradition. That is what these holidays are truly about.

THERE IS NO GOD Not that I believe in anwyays.

Fine then, I will. I think it's Foamythesquirrel. Why did you feel the need to bolden and enlarge the size of the font when you said 'there is no God'? Because you're right, and they're wrong? What proof do you have of that? Are you jealous because they have a greater spiritual connection then you?

I don't know, but that was really rude.

I have always had a problem with this. While we are at it, lets add an Islamic holiday. However, I think Emery hit the nail on the head. Christmas is no longer CHRISTmas, at least not in it's original form. The Daily Show did a segment of the commercialization of Christmas that was quite funny.

20 years ago: 40% off Christmas sale with a family of manicans with cardigan sweaters and vests and the like.
Present day: 20% off Holiday Sale A bunch of swimsuits
20 years in future: 10 % off Winter sale. The manicans were a little vulgar.

I think someone on here was correct in saying that at least Hannukah wasn't commercialized like Christmas has. And a better word for this change would be a SECULAR Christmas.

I agree with you boom, it was uncalled for, but he has a right to his beliefs.
Note to everybody. I am seriously afraid this will turn into a my belief is better than your belief. Need I bring up the Seven Deadly Sins of VMK by ArchetypeAngel.

Well.............. I'm not jealous.. Of all that spiritual junk.. I don't worship anyone. I'm not right, they're not wrong. It's oppinion. I(That's me..)BELIEVE THAT THERE IS NO GOD. That doesn't mean there isn't.. And I like huge letters. It doesn't mean i'm a nazi either. And it wasn't me who turned them in. It doesn't mean a player did that.. Sometimes staff just remove things themselves without having reports.

edit: Wow, I win the jerk of the day prize!

This is very sad... All MickeysMusic did was post her sadness over VMK making her change the title of her room, which has been used before by others -- and the fact that they boot everyone from her room the second she got disconnected. Can we please stick to the topic please? :)

BTW: Thanks to the Mods for trying to keep this thread on topic -- I appreciate it. :)

No, you're a nazi, they did believe there was a God. Same God as the Jews actually .
I don't think there is such thing as atheism - just agnosticism.

Anywho, sorry your room was booted and the name rejected by staff. I don't see why they should have a problem with it - it wasn't hurting anyone.

I would like everyone to keep this DIS Guideline in mind when posting:

We ask that everyone conduct himself or herself with respect when speaking to other people. It is okay to disagree, as long as the discussion remains respectful of the feelings of others

Thank you! :)

This is absolutely ridiculous.

1. Today's staff event was titled: Christmas in July. Monkey's room was titled Hannukah Joy. She did not dictionary dance or use allowable words in an inappropriate way. Why would this not be allowed? Are we to believe that wanted the word "Joy" to be changed?

2. The menorah is a symbol of Hannukah much in the same way that the tree is a symbol of Christmas. There are many rooms that have Christmas in their title. I know of at least one that belongs to a friend.

The truly sad part of what Monkey has experienced is that VMK is somehow telling children that Hannukah is not accepted while Christmas (aka - Christmas in July) is. That is truly not a message of any values that I would hope this game would be attempting to spread.

3. I will be building a Channukah room this afternoon (although my money and time really should be going to my ride rooms :furious: ), but this is an issue that goes way beyond this being a game. It touches on what children are being shown as acceptable ways to filter religious identity in a very subtle, yet lasting and hurtful way. If anyone else has a Hannukah or Christmas room that they would like to link to mine, please let me know. I am thinking of it as a joint sign of acceptance and tolerance towards varying holiday celebrations. Let me know if you are interested.....
