VMK Begging

I know there have been threads before about the VMK trolls who run around begging with anyone & everyone to trade with them or give them free stuff or ask if they are taken or ask if you're taken or any number of other annoying habits.......

Anyway, I finally realized today what they remind me of! The seagulls in the movie Finding Nemo with their incessant Mine! Mine! Mine! Mine! It drives me nuts! Where's the head banging smilie when you need it?

i try to make them realize how silly they are being.

for example, a conversation i had today:

"can I have your feather hat?"
(me) "the one i am wearing?"
"yes"
(me) Well if i gave it to you, i wouldnt be wearing it anymore would i?"
"umm, no i guess not"
(me) do you think I like my hat?
"yes, i guess"
(me)you are right, that is why i am wearing it"
(me) "so let me ask you, do you think I want to give it away?"

..to which, the person left the room.

I have to hand it to you NJ Mike - you're good! I guess I just don't have the patience to do that though. Before it gets that far I usually just walk away - far, far away!

I'm like MousseDude, I often have very little patience especially if a trade window pops up before anything else. People beg and ask for free things so much and ignore my request in my signature for polite trading - that I've started rewarding the very few newbies who come up to me and talk to me first politely to trade. So I'll give out space suits and other goodies depending on my mood. But to the rest - my convos follow allong the same lines as MousseDude.

hahahaha such a simple and great idea!! Except VMK only lets you repeat words so many times, I'll have to take the chance of typing too fast and waiting 20 seconds!

I get the people can I have magic? and i'm like for what? and they're like to play with? and i'm like no what are you trading? and they show up lame 50 credits stuff, clothes and kelloggs stuff which is really funny and then they beg saying they need it! they need it! and when I say no they're like well you have so many can't you give me one and i'm like no i earned all of those and then it usually ends but one time the person demanded i trade and actually said just trade it trade it now! i reported that person

People constantly ask me for free things and I ignore them. If they are in my trade rooms I boot them and in a trade window I close it. It might seem cold hearted but if I gave someone to everyone that asked I would be doing two things, first I would not have anything left and two I would be teaching the just to beg for things, just beg and you will be given things.

When I started I did not ask for a single thing except information. I asked a lot of questions on this board that was it. So if I could do it why can't everyone else do it that way also?

I understand giving things to friends which is quite differently from a totaly starnger saying they are poor. We all were once and in fact someone starting now has much more credits starting out that most of us did.

I often think that it is kids doing it and thinking what would their parents say if they knew how they were asking. I would be upset with my child for asking for anything for free. I think that this game is a teaching tool about economics a little. Do I buy things now just to have or should I save for an event? Trading is a definate lession is supply and remand and nothing can illistrate that more than the princess hats. They were sold for about an hour. Small supply, there was a huge demand for them.

So what are we teaching by just giving things away? A RAK is one thing and I do that with friends but I rarely ever give something to someone that asks for it.

My little girl loves to "shop" but rarely buys anything- and usually comes to me or her daddy to ask if she can first- her last major aquisition was the out of space room- she thinks it is cool- and then she wanted to shop for furniture- I told her to save her credits and she can buy her own blue dress when it comes out- I've been getting anything else she needs

So she looked around and is now trying to decide should she wait for the dress or just get furniture- of course then daddy came to the rescue and said she could shop in his spare room- lol

to get back on topic- I was shocked at the nerve of some of the kids- who are insisting that you trade with them- I had one girl who kept clicking the trade window on me today- (and I don't have purple/pink ears lol) but I guess she wanted my gold ears I was wearing- I asked her in the open what she wanted and would never answer- so I ignored her -but before it was plz plz plz and you have to trade with me!

I just find it odd that they have the nerve to ask like that- and you want to say- what entitles you to even feel like you can ask for something like that- much less gives you the expectation that your desire would be fulfilled- of course- not only would the VMK dictionary not let me say something like that but most of the people begging would never understand it if the dictionary did allow the words- lol

Then, anytime somebody asks for something just reply "click on me, then go away!"

Pumpkinfish - I feel so honored that you named your hat "Mine Mine"!! I don't mind at all!

Mike you continue to crack me up! BTW - Not only does my character have "No trades - don't even ask!" as her slogan, all of my mules do as well. I feel like a creep.

I have to admit that yesterday I was feeling a bit like my sea star's, MsSocks, tag line - "Cranky the 8th dwarf" There was all kinds of garbage happening IRL and I guess I was already on edge. Then I tried to escape into VMK & was bombarded with trade requests, "give it to me now" "cry cry you're mean - give it to me" "be my mummie" "are you taken" etc.

But I think the straw that broke this camel's back was when I went to a meeting with a blocked doorway to the room. People showed up in the doorway & kept demanding to be let in - over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over & over....in addition to demanding that people in the room give or trade their new princess hats. I couldn't sort out the conversation of the meeting from the garbage & I think I made the person in charge irritated with me....especially when I got up & walked away from my keyboard and she wanted to give me something for the party but I didn't respond. *sigh*

Sorry - I'm just an old fogey I guess. Maybe I need a glass of whatever MousseDude's drinking?

traders, not trading myself), and I had wished it was held in my own room,
so I would have the power to boot people out if they got out of hand.

Oh I use the Ignore button freely! But never thought to use it on other people in the room - I've only used it on the ones trying to trade with me or begging me specifically. I think it's going to be a quiet day on VMK today! Rooms full of people & no talk bubbles!

And I often wish I was in my own room so I could boot people.
