Well, I guess Billy Cyrus and his Achy Breaky Heart don't need to be worried about being the most embarrassing moment of the Cyrus family anymore...

I watched because I wanted to see JT. I was past teenage years when Nsync was famous but I did enjoy them and although I don't really go for these boy banders, I find him incredibly talented.

After the first two acts last night, I figured I was officially old until DD14 noted here disgust too!

For the record, I think everyone involved with that performance should be ashamed. I watched it again, and I re-noticed that all the men had lots of clothes on and all the women were at minimum half-naked (not to mention the lyrics). The whole thing was seriously objectifying and awful. Miley was embarrassing, but Robin Thicke, 2 Chainz and Kendrick Lamar should be ashamed of themselves.

Also, it was out of tune and bad art.

The song she sang on the VMAs, We Can't Stop, was a big hit.
I just googled, it was #2 on Billboards Hot 100 in July.
Her video for it was not as bad as her performance, but it was still so ridiculous. I can't figure out how to get a link from YouTube on here using my iPad, but you can google We Can't Stop and it'll come up.

I never thought Miley had any singing talent..so wasn't surprised at how she sounded. I was surprised by the trainwreck.

Let's see...Justin Timberlake: started out on the Disney Channel on the MMC. Went on to become a boyband member and now is a solo artist who seems to have a pretty good head on his shoulders.

Justin showed how it's done..that was how you transition from a Disney child star to a serious performing adult. Of course having some actual talent helps.

The MTV Awards does serve a purpose it serves as entertainment, just as the Grammy Awards, Emmy Awards, and so on. As a whole I dont think the MTV awards are complete garbage, yes I may not have liked the Miley Cyrus performance but there were other performances I did like such as Justin Timberlake and Bruno Mars, both who I think are excellent performers.

It is the lowest common denominator. If that is what you consider entertainment, I am sorry. I'll give you that Timberlake has some talent but that's as far as I'll go.

I agree with this. I enjoyed the pre-show with Austin Mahone and Ariana Grande (new faces of pop). The illuminati has not come knockin on their door yet.

Just because they don't sing your genre of music doesn't make them talentless.

Austin Mahone is a great young singer. Lady Ga Ga has an amazing voice. P!nk (who wasn't there last night but has performed on the VMA's many times) is an all around amazing talent. Justin Timberlake is a talented singer and dancer. The list goes on.

Now there are some that missed the boat on talent--Kanye West is one. While I like some of his music, I think the talent is more with the folks in the recording studio than with Kanye. I don't think Taylor Swift can sing at all, but I do think she can write songs, if she would get off the heartbreak kick, she could probably write some amazing music.


As for Miley, she should keep something in mind, when you make Rihanna raise her eyebrows, you have raised the skank factor waaaayyy to far.

I didn't watch the awards but saw the Miley stuff this morning. I can't say I'm really surprised. The whole reason she is up there is to be half naked and dancing around the stage, God knows it isn't for her to sing. She isn't the first talentless "sex symbol" and won't be the last.

I wonder if her unraveling will be as bad (and fun to watch quite frankly) as Lohan's and Bynes'. I really hate the cult of celebrity so it is nice seeing some of them fall miserably. I also wonder if a "leaked" sex tape is in her future. She is really just a ***** with a limited shelf life.

I saw a couple minutes of video this morning, that was about all I could take. Isn't she having some kind of feud with her father? I think this was a great big "let's embarrass Daddy" moment for her.

I've seen lots of sexy, glamorous women perform on the VMAs, the Grammy's, etc. This wasn't one of them. What on earth was with the hair and the fat rolls sticking out from the vinyl bikini? Was she trying to be as unattractive as possible? Wow, then it was a big success.

Sadly, I agree. Spent last night showing the kids youtubes from the 1989 MTV Awards, what a difference. But again, maybe Im just old. But DS15 is a HUGE 80's classic rock fan and he agrees with me

Your remark about Justin having "some" talent leads one to believe that you do not believe the others that perform at the VMA's do not have talent.

It may not be what you consider entertainment, but it is entertainment for others. I agree with previous posters the VMA's is all about shock value, it always has been. I also don't agree with MTV not being relevant because it definitely is this is a chance for artists to perform in front of millions, many who may have never seen their work. For example Ariane Grande or the new Justin Beiber guy, I've never seen neither perform and wouldn't have had it not been for the VMA's. Also it was one of the most talked about show last night being a trending topic for much of the show.

My main reasons for watching were to see Lady Gaga, macklemore, and JT. None of them disappointed me---love, love Gaga; JT was great; Macklemore and "Same Love" with Jennifer Hudson was outstanding.

No words for Miley Cyrus, who was so much more entertaining as Hannah Montana. Kanye West was terrible, Kevin Hart not funny, and got sick of seeing Taylor Swift in the audience.

As for Miley, I wonder if its a double standard. Robin Thicke has been trying to get into the spotlight for a lot of years and only this summer when he released a video too hot for TV that had to be yanked down and replaced with a tamer version did he really get noticed.

And how is what Miley doing different than Madonna showing her breasts or releasing a Sex book? A poster said Madonna has talent. I think she's ok but she's more known for her antics than her amazing voice. She's not Adele basically.

I call the train wreck of the night as Kanye West. Just where would he be without auto tune? Maybe working in a 7-11?
