And another thing... The term "artist" is thrown around far too much. None of the people on this program is an artist. They don't make art.

Musicians aren't artists? Music isn't art? Recording artists? What?

I vehemently disagree.

You may not like their art. There are plenty artists that I don't "get" but it IS art.

These people are in the business of making money and compromising their values and any sort of artistic integrity to do so. Anything on the VMA's should not be considered art! That's ridiculous!

He is a rapper. 90% of his work has been rap. He 'sang' a few short hooks here and there until his 808s and Heartbreaks album came out (where Love Lockdown and Heartless are from), which was almost entirely sung. All very heavily auto-tuned, because he is NOT a singer and cannot carry a tune, but he also has an obsession with overworking his vocals until they're robotic. But, Kanye's one of the most heavily critically acclaimed hip-hop artists ever. He's a brilliant writer and producer and has a keen ear for great samples. I do so wish someone would convince him to never, ever sing again though.

As for the Miley performance, I wasn't shocked...I was just full of second-hand embarrassment for her. Cringe, cringe, cringe. She's trying way too hard to turn her teen pop image into some kind of street cred and it's just awkward. Two years ago the girl whined about the lyrics in "Party to the USA" saying "I don't even know who Jay Z is!" and now, after such a short while, she's giving interviews saying "I don't know who One Direction is, I only listen to URBAN!" I look forward to her next "phase". Maybe her next obsession will be Polka music. At least she'll be fully dressed then.

After I picked my jaw up off the floor and gathered my thoughts, I just felt bad for her. I think that she has some bad management. Bad, bad, bad management that are selling her on the shock factor way of marketing herself.

I honestly don't believe that she is anything like Lindsey Lohan or Amanda Bynes. I don't think she is on drugs, and I don't think that she is mentally impaired (if that's a term). It's quite apparent how awkward she is and not really even comfortable with herself. She's like a puppet.

She probably goes home and changes into sweats and reads books....like she is living a real life Hannah Montana double life.

I hope she realizes soon that you don't have to be trashy to be relevant. But in the meantime, the train keeps rolling....

With the saturation of auto tune these days, I'd say most "singers" are as much "artists" as I would be if I did a paint by numbers kit. That would not make me Van Gogh.

Art is usually an expression of creative imagination in some form. That wasn't creative or imaginative. Fabulous foam finger, teddy bears, tongues and gyrations aside, none of it looked planned, imagined or created. And no, you can't convince me that part of her "art" was making it look that it wasn't planned or created. So.. ehh, art? Not so much, but there ARE other words for it LOL!

Well, at her 20 to his 36, he's not the oldest man she's ever simulated sex on. Remember the lap dance she gave to the 40-something year old when she was 15 or 16? That's enough to make her daddy and mama proud.

The whole performance had an air of pathetic desperation about it. But I have to say, the photo of Will's Smith's family's reaction is one of the funniest things I have seen in ages.
