VMAs

There are lots of great singers out there that never make it to stardom.

Lady Gaga has not become famous (infamous) because of vocal prowess. She's become famous for being outrageous.

Would anyone even be interested if she showed up in a simple black dress?

Raising the "outrageous" bar each and every time can be exhausting, I imagine.

It will be interesting to see what her next move will be.

She's a girl with unconventional magazine cover looks who has drawn from her kookiness to get her foot in the door. Had she merely depended on her vocal prowess, she wouldn't have made it farther than East Village Pizza and Kebabs.

People tend to make comparisons between Gaga and Madonna, Bowie, or Grace Jones, and rightfully so. But she reminds me of another unconventional girl who also started her career in the Village, whose vintage clothing and "kooky" behavior tended to overshadow her talent. She would show up to radio broadcasts looking absolutely ridiculous, photographers on the street kept guessing what strange or even dirty rags she'd be wearing that day. She would wear one outfit to get into a taxi, and another to get out, because she didn't want to be photographed in the same outfit twice in the same day. And she even went as far as to wear a sheer dress when accepting her Oscar that showed a lot more under the lights than she had originally planned.

So with Gaga, we're not talking about Taylor Swift or Rihanna or someone with the kind of beauty society tends to elevate overnight. So, instead, she draws you in with her other strengths (or the people who so control her career, it isn't clear at this point). Hell, how often did we read about Gaga's gender? Was she a man or a woman? Instead of growing defensive, she answered back by being even more ambiguous.

Let's see what she does next, because if she's anything like the woman I mentioned before, it can only get better.

Florence and the Machine are awesome. She has an incredible voice.

The stage looked like old Tomorrowland.

Sofia Vergara is HOT!!!!!

Cher looks FREAKING amazing.

Lady Gaga wearing a meat dress and hat standing next to pop royalty looking like a billion bucks......I dont have a way to finish this thought......I'm just sorta speechless.

Sofia Vergara is this generation's Sophia Loren, IMHO. She's probably even more stop-dead-in-your-tracks gorgeous in person.

Cher and Dolly Parton look great, but they've crossed a threshold for me that says they look more like their drag queen impersonators now. Whoever Cher's surgeon is, amazing job.

And I kept thinking when I saw the meat dress: "I wonder how many vegan protests we'll hear about tomorrow!" ;)

I have to agree about Dolly, I love her, but she is wandering into Joan Rivers territory. Cher though, no, not yet, I thought she looked amazing last night, I kept looking at her thinking she truly didn't look all that different from when she wore that outfit 20 years ago.

I'm not a a vegan or a member of PETA and I find it disgusting.

Just read the headlines about starvation throughout the world and the people in Pakistan dying in the streets from lack of drinkable water and food and then look at the picture above of a wealthy privileged person wasting this meat.

While I'm not referring to her talent at all, I find this irresponsible and embarrassing.

wait a second...the meat on that dress was real? :scared1:

Yes, real meat dress, shoes, hat and purse. Check out the picture I posted of Cher hugging her above, no one could fake meat that good.

Apparently Lady Gaga is going to be on Ellen today wearing the meat dress...I think it was taped after the VMA's last night...Ellen is a vegan so that might be interesting.

Here is what Lady Gaga said about her "dress."

QUOTE:
“Well, it’s certainly no disrespect to anyone that’s vegan or vegetarian….I, as you know, am the most judgment-free human being on Earth. However, it has many interpretations — but for me this evening it’s that if we don’t stand up for what we believe in, if we don’t fight for our rights, pretty soon we’re gonna have as much rights as the meat on our bones. AND, [holds up Japanese Vogue, on the cover of which Gaga appeared in a (real) meat bikini], I am not a piece of meat.”

What? :confused3

I guess I'm old fashioned....but I think it's hard to pull off a meat hat and a dress made of meat, trailing sausage and animal intestines.

I will say that she sang a snippet of a new song live and a capella and she sounded great.....but she was wearing meat:scared1:

It was bad enough on television....but she kept moving, so it was hard to see details.

My opinion has changed from this being bad to this being repulsive.

I couldn't agree with you more. I went to bed and didn't see it live, but the thought and picture posted here are more than enough. She needs to have her head examined.

Just got done watching the Ellen show, she seemed less than thrilled to be interviewing Lady Gaga.

I agree about Lady Gaga and her meat dress.....that was horrendously gross. Compare her with my girl Katy Perry:lovestruc, who was on as a presenter....she was really pretty. Katy is the real pop princess these days.princess:

Ellen was on Ryan Seacrest's radio show today and she said it was very uncomfortable. She also said she asked for Lady Gaga to change out of the meat dress, but obviously that didn't happen. Ellen sounded genuinely upset by the whole thing.
