Hi everyone,
This is my first time to this board. I was just wondering what people thought of the All Star Resorts at Walt Disney World. I would really like to stay at the Caribbean Resort but for the amount of time we will actually be in the room it just seems like alot of money. What are the All Star Resorts like....they seem alittle cheesy looking. Are there any sites that I can find good discounts for some of the resorts. Any help or suggestions would be great.
Thanks

Welcome to the Dis, Daisy!

Weve stayed at ASMO 3 times now and really enjoy it. I find I prefer that over the moderates. ;) You can find a lot of info on the resorts on the Resort Board, and as browneyes said, mousesavers has any available discounts listed there.

Since you asked for opinions, staying at the All Star Resorts would NOT be my idea of a nice vacation. I agree with your comment about them appearing "cheesy looking".

Just my opinion, though...

:D

I think it depends on how much you want to get out of a resort. For some, they don't need a resort except for a place to sleep. Others want to experience more, like myself. I stayed at the All-Star Music Resort a few years ago and it was cool. However, I have since stayed at the Carribbean Beach Resort and the Coronado Springs Resort and I prefer to stay at moderate resort, or higher. Whatever you choose to do, you just have to remember you're in WDW, so have a great time!

Hi! Last august i stayed at all star movies, the year before that at all star music, and two years before that also at all star music. I personally love the all star resorts. The theming does tend to be a bit cheesey but I don't mind it a bit. My sister and I tend to be 'hams' and love to take pictures doing silly things, in the all star movies they have a big tv screen that you can stand in and take pictures.. If you have kids that are going they will LOVE the theming. I've read many times about problems with transportation, but we haven't ever had any problems. I think I tend to be a patient person though.
hope this helps you out!

tricia.

My DH and I stayed at AS Movies and loved it and we were on our honeymoon. WE basically just wanted a hotel room with a shower and a bed. WE both loved the theming and will most likely stay there again and are staying in Pop Century resort in FEB. WE personally can't see spending extra money just to stay in a moderate to sleep in same kind of bed and use same kind of shower.

I have not stayed at the All Stars, but have visited several times when meeting DIS'ers there. I think the place looks pretty cool. Maybe a bit cheesey, but heck, the place was started by a Mouse, no?? :) I think it is like being IN a cartoon while there, as is the new Pop Century resort. I think very creative by the Imagineers. Good discounts can be had many times throughout the year. Please so stop by and say hello when you can.

I've stayed at ASMO twice now. The first time was when a bunch of friends and I went to WDW for our senior trip. For new high school graduates it was perfect. We just needed a bed and a shower! :) The next year I stayed there with my family. My parents are used to the moderate resorts and felt like the bus service wasn't as good to the AS resorts. I do admit the buses were more cramped and felt like the arrived less frequently. Any Disney resort is great in my eyes, it all depends on your budget.

It's totally cheesy and my kids loved it. We stayed at the All Star Sports, it was a last minute change from the Caribbean. I had to change the dates.
It was fun. It felt like disney. I've got lots of pictures of my girls and my neices having lots of fun in the courtyard with the X's and O's. For the morning juice and whatever, they would go outside and sit on top the X's just enjoying the morning.
My kids were about 8 and 14, my neices were 4 and 4.

There was a time in my life that I would have stayed at the AS's and loved it. Then, I got spoiled staying at better hotels. I liken the AS's to an EconoLodge with a theme. If you're just looking for a room with a bed and shower, that's what you'll get. If you're used to hotels with amenities, then you'll be disappointed. If you've never stayed onsite before, you'll love it just for that fact.

I, for one, have promised my DH that we would never stay at an AS again. If we had to change our week because that was all that was available, then we'd change our week.

Before you book, check out the Disney Vacation Club link. You may be able to rent someone's points for your stay at a very reasonable rate. Then, you'd be staying in Deluxe accommodations for less.

Welcome to the DIS!

Don't think twice about the All Stars. As you can tell by my screen name, I was once in your shoes. We were going to stay at the All Stars Sports, but I wanted to stay at CBR so bad!

I ended up LOVING the All Stars and HATING CBR! You're looking at it the right way, you won't be in your room except to sleep...so keep that in mind. I would only choose CBR over All Stars if I got a great discount at CBR and it was going to be the same price anyways.

Happy Planning!

I've stayed at CBR, Port Orleans Riverside AB, and All Star Sports. They all were neat places to be with their own personalities. CBR was romantic, POR was very laid back and All Stars lots of energy and fun. I would stay at each again.

You didn't say if you had children, who you were going with, etc. Maybe get with them and let them help you decide. I always thought that we would just use the room to sleep in at night and shower but we ended up using to to rest too or just to hang out inbetween activities.

You might check in on the Resort Board too if you already haven't.

I went on a budget trip with a friend in 2000 and we stayed at All Stars Music. It was fine. The rooms were clean, albeit VERY small, and I thought the theming was adorable. I loved having a food court, and thought the service was excellent. I would not consider staying there with my family of 4, because we'd be on top of one another the whole time and we like having down time on our vacation - but if you are a smaller family or only use your hotel room to sleep, I wouldn't hesitate to stay at the All Stars. WDW resorts are tightly run, I doubt you would find it cheesy.

I stayed at All Star Music and absolutely hated it. My son did like it, though, the colors are definitely to attract the young. I consider the hotel a big part of my trip and this one was so small and uncomfortable I couldn't believe it.

I had a very bad experience with the front desk but Disney was very kind after I complained and sent my son a nice picture of Goofy and a letter of apology. That was three years ago and I get a cramp everytime I think about going back there... UGH!

I liked All Star Music just fine. I stayed there every trip until I joined DVC and got the Boardwalk. I like it better because of its location, but I have nothing against the All Stars.
