Was just cruising skyauction and saw Vistana resort for $299 week in Sept for 2-bedroom suite all taxes and resort fees included. I would book in a heartbeat but already have free dining package.

Just a heads up for other Sept travelers.

may be worth your while to go ahead & book for that price. That way you would still keep all the benefits of FDP and enjoy the space of a 2-bed. Just a thought. I am looking into it myself. Have a great trip

Between Sky Auction deals and eBay finds, it makes me wonder if it ever makes sense to buy at Vistana since there are so many good deals on rentals...

September is the slowest month in Orlando, and it probably has gotten even slower now that people worry so much about hurricanes -- I suspect that is the reason why Disney offered the Free Dining Package then.

Vistana is a huge resort, and they have trouble filling it up during the slow season, so I'm not that surprised to see it going so cheaply.

There are some older sections at Vistana that are not as nice as the newer sections, so you need to watch out for that.

Wow what a incredible bargain!! Hope someone can maybe book for that rate.

I'd say it is almost always cheaper to rent or trade into an Orlando unit, rather than owning in Orlando. However, there are still some reasons to buy in Orlando. Owning a fixed week 52 (Christmas) would make sense if that's when you usually go. Owning DVC definitely makes sense if you can afford to stay on site. And, some people just fall in love with a particular resort and want to be sure they can always stay there -- Orange Lake Country Club seems to get a lot of that.

Also, there are some resorts in Orlando that have special opportunities for timeshare trading. Owning a Marriott may make sense if you want to trade into a Marriott somewhere else. Vistana is sometimes used by people who want access to specific timeshare trading programs (RCI Points, and I think maybe Starwood's StarOptions.)

But overall, I agree with you. In fact, I suspect that the vast majority of people who own Orlando timeshares would have been better off owning somewhere else, or just renting.
