Visiting Week of Thanksgiving Your Thoughts

We will be arriving the weekend before Thanksgiving. We would love to spend a day at Disneyland. I am looking for when you think would be the best day crowd wise to visit, Sunday, Monday or Tuesday? (Nov 23rd, 24th or 25th?) Or, is it just too busy then to enjoy a one day stop. This is just my husband and myself, we are both 50 years old, but love Disney!

Also - is there such a thing as a deal on a one (maybe two day) day ticket for adults?

We are going to be staying in Oceanside and driving in from there, possibly staying for one night. This is a family reunion, so we might have a few others that will join us.

It will be very busy, but I would still go if you are in the area. Of those days I would pick Sunday. Hopefully there will still be people traveling on that day, I think a few of the APs are blocked that day also.

We have been 3 of the last 5 Thanksgiving weeks, the first part of the week can be quite insane. The crowds actually start to taper off a bit on turkey day through the weekend.

Get there early, 30-60 minutes before the gates open. You can still get a lot done early in the morning. Think about a later lunch, or earlier dinner, or taking in some of the shows/parades when the crowds are really bad. I would hesitate to take a break back to your room if I was there for only one day, but that is an option if the crowds are too much for you. You can also hop over to CA, the walkways are much wider over there and it doesn't feel as crowded. Fun to sit down on a bench and just people watch for a break.

I am in the same boat as you as I will be in LA for a gathering for my sister's birthday, but my Disney days were limited. I am going Sunday and Monday and I hope its not too busy. We will also be getting a house near one of the beaches, but the drive is quite long form what I understand so I ahve a room in Anaheim for two nights. You might consider that because being there early will be best and help you fit in at least a couple hours before the crowds get heavy.

I have learned though that crowds or no crowds, Disney is still always fun!

I think you're looking at a fairly busy time regardless of day. I would be tempted to shy away from Sunday because that tends to be a very busy day with locals coming into DLR. I would probably consider either Monday or Tuesday, without much preference for one or the other at this point.

In terms of tickets, you might look to see how much a 1-day or 2-day ticket is on Disneyland.com and then comparison shop with the authorized (or at least reputable) ticket re-sellers. I've seen people talk about way.com, orbitz/ebates, AAA, local credit unions, aRes, etc.

I say go for it. Those days are going to be busy no matter how you look at them, but if you're in the area, how can you pass up Disneyland? I actually second the suggestion for Sunday though. What usually happens is that the crowds build and build until they seem to hit their peak on Wednesday, then level off a bit for Thanksgiving day, then rise again for the day after Thanksgiving. We've been for all those days each of the last 6 years, and that's how it feels to us.

We have done Thanksgiving week the past two years and I agree with Elk Grove Chris that I would pick the Sunday. Second choice would be Monday. As he mentioned, the week just gets busier as it approaches Thanksgiving Day. I also agree with his plan of attack for that day. Enjoy it!
