Hello fellow Disers. Hopefully sometime this "new" year I wanna plan a trip to Utah...especially in the Sunset/Ogden/Clearfield area. I know it sounds strange coming from a place 2 hours to "The World" lol. It was 20+ years ago when my dad was stationed at Hill Airforce Base and we stayed in the complex which is inside the base. He quit, we moved to FL, worked as an Engineering Inspector for KCA and stayed down here since. Theres also a school in Clearfield called Hillfield Elementary (where I was a student of course) but is it inside the base? I know you can't enter the base unless youre stationed there. All I plan to do is visit down memory lane and take pics of the school and the neighborhood I once played around, just crusing around Ogden and Sunset area. Another reason is the Wasatch Mountains and dinosaur museums.

So beside those any point of interests I can look into? Or Actually anybody here have a relative or know someone stationed at Hill Airforce Base Thanks alot guys :)

Utah resident checking in. I'll try to be as helpful as I can (don't know much about the Air Force base) as it is WAY past my usual 9:30 bedtime.

The good thing about visiting up in the Clearfield area is that it's about an hour's drive to the "point of the mountain" which is where the dinosaur museum is located. It's reasonably priced and a pretty fun self-guided tour. The museum is one the property at Thanksgving Point which plays host to many activities throughout the year (check the calendar) as well as has a beautiful garden.

Traveling east from Thanksgiving Point to the mouth of American Fork Canyon (about 8 miles) is the Timpanogos Caves. I am not outdoorsy, but have heard it's a great tour.

Between the Clearfield area and the Point of the Mountain is a TON of stuff to do, depending on your travel season and preferred form of fun. Park City is great any time of the year. Of course skiiing is great in the winter, but in the summer, the mountains are great for hiking---just pick a canyon and they'll be tons of trails. Cottonwood comes to mind. If you know a "High School Musical" fan stop by East High in Salt Lake. Shopping is par for the course. The Gateway (outdoor mall)in Salt Lake is a popular spot as there is a children's museum, movie theater, and fun stores. It's right off the freeway and close to Temple Square and the Energy Solutions Arena.

If you don't want to drive. Frontrunner is a commuter train that runs from Ogden, I think, to Salt Lake, and once you're in Salt Lake, you could take Trax, the local rail system.

I'll stop here. I hope this was some help. One question, will you be flying solo or traveling with family?

One more blurb, when you find out WHEN you're going, look up community events. That's a big thing here---Concerts, shows, parades, rodeos, events, holidays, even Strawberries---People are always celebrating something.

I will be flying solo and staying for 3 days (through the wknd). Thanks for the interests i'll look into those. My sister got me a dinosaur map of Utah and other wetsern states which is Paleo-heaven lol. Thats another reason.
