Visiting the resorts

I'll be visiting WDW in a couple of weeks with a friend, and we're staying off property. Even though we won't be at a WDW resort, can I still visit the resorts? We were thinking of maybe spending an afternoon on the beach at Poly. Would this be a problem?

I don't know why you couldn't visit the resorts. There have been plenty of times when I just went to a resort to check it out ... On our most recent trip, I made journeys to AsMu, AKL and the Beach Club.

I know there was just a big thread on here about the Poly being overtaken by non-Poly guests, so I'm sure some won't like your idea.

When we were trying to decide where to stay we visited each resort that interested us. But we didn't do anything at the resort other than walk around.

assuming you are going to be driving you will only be given like a 3 hour parking pass.

It's no problem at all. You are more than welcome to check out the other resorts. Just don't hop in their pools.
Just a quick question though. What are you going to do on that beach for the afternoon? Sure, it's nice and all, and it's nice to see the Castle in the distance, but I've stayed at the Polynesian and I don't think I would spend more than half an hour on the beach. You can't swim there, there is nothing to do. Just curious.

I don't think anyone much cares if you hang out at the Poly beach for a half-hour to watch the fireworks, but I'm not sure they'd be OK with camping out there for the afternoon if you're not staying at the resort. There are a limited number of lounge chairs, and the paying customers really should get first crack at them. Personally, I wouldn't do it, and I'd be fairly ticked off if I paid hundreds of dollars to stay there and then couldn't enjoy the beach because non-resort-guests were taking up the chairs.

I'm honestly not sure what the official policy is on this, or if there even is one. One afternoon at the WL when most of the lounge chairs on the beach were taken, security did walk down and ask to see resort IDs, and they did ask folks to leave if they couldn't produce one.

My suspicion is that if it's not crowded, and you and your friend are just about the only ones at the beach, no one will say anything. If it is crowded, though, they may well ask you to leave.
