This has not been allowed since 9/11. Most of them are now locked. You can always try but i would doubt it now

Hi
was in premium economy last year ( virgin ) and a young lad was allowed to have a look in th ecockpit

Yup, after 9/11 visiting the cockpit whilst in flight is a no no. I have however been able to visit once the plane was on the ground.

These days it is a big NO NO. You could arrive at the gate early and ask before the flight departs or after landing once on stand :)

Gosh, that brings back some memories of being a child and always going into the flight deck and being amazed that the pilots were eating and drinking. My brother and I spent nearly all the flight time to Ibiza in the flight deck:thumbsup2

befor 9/11 rember going up to cockpit with my DS,we were flying over new york.statue of libitey clearly in view, when piolt asked us to return to our seats as there was 2 fighter planes think F1-11s comming towards us,he said it was a trainning exersise in case of rouge planes entering and they can shout them down.Sad that they couldent shout the planes down on 9/11.they were trained do do it

D S was allowed up in 90, our first visit, he was only 10 and over the moon. The cabin crew actually came around asking all the youngsters if they would like to have a look. Last year in Orlando when we were still boarding a young lad came upstairs with one of the crew and was allowed a look. At the time I got the impression he was related to the crew member.

No I cant see it after 9/11.

Have you ever been to the Manchester Aviation viewing park? you can pay to go on a tour of the concorde, and also they have another plane now onsite which you can pay to go on. Thats if you are around this area. But it makes a good day out.:goodvibes

It is never allowed during the flight since 9/11 as other posters have said, but we found that on nearly all the flights that we took last year that our children were invited to look at the flight deck and talk to the pilot once the plane had landed and the other passengers had disembarked.

We just mentioned to the flight attendant just before descent that the children would love to have a look and they said that it's upto the discretion of each pilot and that they would check with him / her, each time they came back and said that the pilot had invited the children to come forward and talk to them after landing.

The pilot on the last leg of our journey was fantastic with the children he stopped and talked to them for ages, put all the screens back on and let them sit in his seat and made my husband get his camera and take pictures of them pretending to be the pilot! :thumbsup2 the flight attendents then arranged for a buggy to come and collect us from the gate and take us through to security and baggage claim at LHR saving us a really long walk. A brilliant end to a brilliant holiday :cool1:

My two boys, aged 5 & 8 at the time, loved it, but not as much as my husband :rotfl2:

Ah, that's so sweet - I remember going up all the time before 9/11. My dad, brother and I fly light aircraft so there was always loads to talk about! As others have said, most pilots will let you go to the cockpit once the plane has landed and is parked up, unless they have a quick turn around and want to get going.

I have just got back from the Falklands Islands. I was able to got to the flight deck on the way out as it was a MOD flight, but on the way back I was not. It was a American plane that was hired in for the job.

Wetravelled PE with TCD last summer-the seats were just behind the cockpit. Just before take-off the flight deck door was open and we asked if our 7-year old could go up. The pilot said it was ok and he was allowed a quick visit.

DH and I went up into the cockpit, I can't remember what year it was now, FIL worked for Britannia at the time and the pilot knew him so we were allowed up there for ages, it was great as they knew FIL we were allowed to stay for landing too! I loved it, we could see Daytona race way and the pelicans flying around on landing - it's a shame that it's not allowed now.

Afraid this is not allowed and an instant sackable offence for any flight crew who allow this now, shame but true.
