Hi all,

I'm visiting my DD and her DH in Pensacola in 3 weeks. That's about 90 min from Mobile area.

Thought we'd see some sights in Mobile and maybe stay over one night.

Anyone familiar with Mobile and give me some tips on what to see or where to stay?

Thanks,

herc.

Bellingrath Gardens - not sure of the spelling. Also USS Alabama.

When we drove through last summer many of the local attractions were not open yet. Make sure you check hotel reviews for current information on the rebuilding process. There is a Battleship Museum that looked really interesting but it wasn't totally open when we passed by. Very pretty area and a cool city.

I LOVE PCOLA!! Sorry didn't mean to yell, but I used to live there and I have nothing but good memories there. I can't think of a thing to do in Mobile but you will have a blast in Pcola...Im jealous!

Nala,

My DD hasn't lived in Pensacola very long. What things do yo recommend to do? Don't think it'll be warm enough to swim.

It should definitely be warm enough to swim...the first thing I recommend is get yourself some real and authentic cajun food!!

What kind of things do you like to do? If you tell me that I can give you a better idea of places/things to do.

I highly recommend the Grand Resort in Fairhope, AL - just outside of Mobile. It reopened late last year after Hurricane Katrina. The beach and the grounds are beautiful and very restful

We usually take people to the Naval Air Museum, it's free. They have IMAX there too. The Pensacola Lighthouse is on the same road as the museum.

In Mobile there are several museums, they also have a Mardi Gras museum, I want to go there. The USS Alabama is really cool, and there is also a submarine there that you can tour. They did have some airplanes but that building was damaged by one of the hurricanes and not sure if it has been repaired. There's Fort Conde in downtown, close to the Exploreum which has the Pompeii exhibit. I think there are also some boutique type shops in the Fort Conde area.

I read about this stuff in the paper and keep thinking I should go. Heck, I've only lived here for six years, I've got plenty of time.

Now if you want to know where to shop, I can help you. There is a Tanger outlet mall in Foley, AL, and if you drive up the road there is a great jewelry and handbag outlet. Right next to the outlets is Lambert's restaurant, one of our favorite places to eat.

If you like history, you may want to catch the Pompeii exhibit - I hope to see it before it ends its run there

You beat me to it!:) My parents are going down to see it in a couple of weeks.
I've already been 'detailed' to watch my grandmother for them that day.;)
Hope you enjoy your trip!
