Hi.. I have a trip planned in July and wanted to know what limitations as far as rides are there for a an overweight person.. my fear is not being able to get the bar to go down and then having to do the walk of shame.
I am going with my 5 year old daughter so we are mostly going to be doing kiddie rides- Dumbo, ISASW and I am not sure what else.. She is not a big thrill rider so I won't have to be worred about those.
I am walking a bit everyday so I will be able to keep up with all the walking in the parks.

i believe all the rides are made to fit "pooh" sized people. i dont think you will have a problem with any of them. keep walking cause you willl be on your feet ALOT!!!!

Being 5'8" and a size 20  There isnt a ride I cant go on. Lap bars all come down and I ride with my DD6 all the time with no problems. The only tip I really used was to grab the seatbelt on Test Track before I sat down and it worked very well. Disney is geared for all sizes. Its great that you are walking as practice because it will help greatly once you are there. It works for me anyway:goodvibes

As a side note I also went when I was a size 24 and felt fine on all rides...some turnstiles I felt more comfy kinda going sideways but all in all I was fine. This trip, fingers crossed I am hoping to go as a size 16:thumbsup2 Either way it will still be fun...its Disney;)

allears.net has great pictures of the rides seats if you want to see what they look like.

Have fun:wizard::wizard::wizard:

Over the 11 years that my family has been taking trips to WDW, my weight has bounced between 175 & 265. I am 5'9". I've settled in closer to the low end of that range, for now. :rolleyes1 I have never had any problems with any of the seatbelts or other restraints. Alot of the rides have a wide seat that both passengers share so unless you're fitting two Pooh-sized people in one seat, you should be okay. I always sit with my youngest daughter, the one that takes up the least amount of space! ;)

Ya know the song "I'm A Little Teapot"???....yeah that's me (see pic below)...you will be just fine!! Enjoy!!

Guys thank you very much for your responses! This makes me feel really good! I am a 24/26.. I have been on roller coasters at area parks where the bar did not go down and click.. I just don't want to embarass my daughter..that would break my heart!

I am your size now and have been larger at Disney. The only ride I had a problem with was Astro Orbiter. It was somewhat hard to get out of.

Astro Orbiter is tight for my smaller friends...that ride is just too small in general:)

The only thing to be aware of are rides where there is just one bar for both people in the car. I'm specifically thinking of BTMRR. If you go with a smaller child you may want to hold on to them as there may be more space between them and the bar depending on how low you can get it on your body.

Trust me......you will be fine. No walk of shame at Disney.

Other parks may not care if "everyone" Pooh's included fit, but WDW sure does.

Go and enjoy!

I was worried about this as well! But after reading so many discussions and posts about this here on the Dis, I feel a lot better! I am trying to lose 50 pounds before I go to Disney in September and Disney is my motivation!

I too are at the poo size and theres nothing so far I've had a problem with even in the water parks. Go and have a wonderful time :cool1:

I've been as big as 5'2, 365+ pounds at Disney and never had a problem anywhere except a few theater seats (including Dinosaur) and a couple turnstiles. Size 26/28 now and no problems anywhere, even WWoS Braves spring training seating. :lovestruc

I'm the same size 24/26 and I had no problems. The turnstiles are tight but you can just ask to go out the stroller/handicap exit which is usually right next to the turnstile for most rides. I loved Expedition Everest, they actually have seats side by side but with separate lap bars that come down so you can sit next to your child and the seats are separate so you don't have to worry about squishing your child whipping around a turn. Also TSM, was similiar in that the bar (well not really a safety bar but the gun to play the video game) came down more for my DD than for me. Space Mountain was a bit tight and just hard to get in and out of because it's like climbing into a bathtub but you can do it. Heck I even went on the carousel, that poor horse. Just have fun! I was actually more worried about the airplane seats than the rides at Disney!

Here is a great read to ease your mind, Disney is much more Pooh size friendly than other parks.

Disney through the eyes of people who know one size does not fit all.

Also, check this thread - you're not alone. There are many of us who are members of the Pooh Nation. There's some valuable tips for an enjoyable trip in there, too. http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=1335512

And here's my thread on clothing for Pooh people: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2414520

From what I can tell, Disney is Pooh-friendly. :)

Trust me......you will be fine. No walk of shame at Disney.

Everyone thank you so much for your help!! I was having really bad anxiety over this!! Like I said I am making moves to lose weight and doing walking to keep up with the park but the reality is that come July even with losing weight, I will still be over weight! You guys have helped to ease my mind and I know i am going to have a great trip!! I will chekc out the links that were posted as well!!:lovestruc

Definitely read the links and don't worry! You'll have a marvelous time even if you decide to skip anything (and I don't think that you will need to).

Most rides are Pooh freindly, but if you are riding "Goofys Barnstormer" with a child, that might be more of a challenge. :goodvibes
