Deb i'm not trying to point score and i take offence at that. The only facts that are certain on this subject are, when travelling to any country in the world you check the entry requirements for that Country.

Now i don't make the rules for entry into the U.S and nor do you Deb.

The entry rules for the U.S are CLEAR

From the U.S Embassy London

Some travelers may not be eligible to enter the United States visa free under the VWP. These include people who have been arrested, even if the arrest did not result in a criminal conviction, those with criminal records, (the Rehabilitation of Offenders Act does not apply to U.S. visa law), certain serious communicable illnesses, those who have been refused admission into, or have been deported from, the United States, or have previously overstayed on the VWP. Such travelers must apply for special restricted visas. If they attempt to travel without a visa, they may be refused entry into the United States.

These are the facts Deb with you or i like them we must abide by them.

And i also have some knowledge on this subject, i had to apply for a Visa and recieved a 10yr Visa. If anyone would like any help with applying for a Visa i'm more than willing to help out.

(on a matter which has the capacity to cause extreme anxiety)

The whole point is Deb it shouldn't cause anyone anxiety the process of applying for a Visa is very easy and checking whether you need a Visa is also very easy. I don't see why you're getting so stressed out by this.

Just because your British doesn't mean you can entry the U.S freely, you must eligible to use the VWP.

Yes a members shouldn't encourage other members to break the rules reguarding entry into the U.S

The rules are quite clear, i mightn't like them but i abide by them !!

On the other thread the posted clearly stated that the poilce NO record of a criminal offence which is why I said she didnt need a visa. You are grossly exaggerating and make it seem that I am encouraging people to break the law left right and centre!

Yo-ho-yo-ho, I am afraid I think you are missing the point of people's objections to your sensationalist posting on this subject.

The recent thread on this matter was about an individual who had been admonished by the Police for something and had no Police record. In fact if you re-read the thread, nowhere on there does it state that the individual concerned was actually arrested. However, you felt it necessary to post on that thread with a chapter and verse quote of US Immigration.

At no point did you explain how the US Immigration may get a record that did not exist, but simply kept referring to the quotation you had made. This kind of posting IMHO adds nothing substantive to this discussion and simply worries people for no reason.

As the OP in that case had the ability to post a topic on a discussion forum, I think it is safe to say that they are able to use the internet, and as such they could probably find the contents of your post themselves without your dramatic and alarmist additions. What they were after was advice or comment on what they could do, not what the letter of the law states, which is a matter of record.

Like it or not, it would appear that more than a few people find your posting on this topic alarmist and over the top.

A British family stood in tears at Atlanta Airport as their father was lead away for not having a Visa. The family were on their way to Disneyland Calf.

Now someone tell me its still not worth applying for a Visa when you know you can't travel via the VWP ?
As for this post, if you can put your hand on your heart and state that this was not a case of "told you so" then you at least need to start composing your threads better, becasue that is the ONLY way it comes across.

As Goofyish stated, we have little or no knowledge of the exact circumstances which led to this man being refused entry. You do not know whether he couldn't travel under the VWP, so this entire post is worthless as an argument to back up your earlier ramblings on the subject.

All that this incident proves is that sometimes people get refused entry, period. It adds no weight to any discussion for or against peoples treatment of the VWP.

As I rather flippantly commented on the last thread in response to a post of yours, maybe we should all apply for Visas? After all, I seem to recall being admonished by a Policeman when I was about 12 years old for cycling on the pavement!

In fact if you re-read the thread, nowhere on there does it state that the individual concerned was actually arrested.

my sis had been charged with an offence many years ago but was only admonished

Can you be charged with something if you haven't been arrested ?

I'm sorry some people think i'm alarmist i'm not really i'm just following the rules set down by the U.S Government.

I think this thread has just about had it's day so I'm locking it :)

The visa questions always seems to stir up a hornets nest of opinions, and without knowing everyones individual circumstances it's very difficult to give the correct advise in every situation.

If you feel you have any sort of grievence against another DISer or just want to clarify a point please feel free to PM or Email one of the moderatation team :)
