Visa for Orlando after October

Have booked for Oct 06 and my passport is about 2 years old - travelled to New York on it last year Dec 04 no problems. However, as i getting married next month (oct) and having to buy a brand new passport (yeah wot a bummer that you can't just change your name on it anymore i have lost 8 years worth!!) when booking she mentioned to check if i would require a visa as rules are changing after oct, i thought the rules changed last october is something else happening now?

No the rule change got postponed from last october to this october so if you have a machine readable passport with at least 6 months left you're still ok

It changes on Oct 26th so if you change it after that you will need a visa. If you are getting married before this date I would send off for your passport straight after if possible and pay to have it done quick. If you can get it done before the 26th you wont need a visa.

Read the biometric passport thread further down - all the information is in there. It's actually passports issued before 26 Oct 2006 now that have to be machine readable ie <<<<<name code etc>>>>> at bottom of photo page.

Passports issued after this date have to be biometric (unless the date is extended again).

The Us have just extended the date again to Oct '06,the last change was to have been Oct this year but they have had to change it because the biometric stuff wasn't up & running! I hadn't realised that you have to get a completely new passport for your name change- seems a bit extreme!

This is a continuing myth.

Check the US embassy website. UK passport holders do not need any validity longer than their stay in the US.

Some airlines like to enforce their own rules however.
