I am trying to decide if VA Beach should be a week or weekend trip. I know we want to do the aquarium. What else should be on our list?

Well, I live here so I may be able to help a bit. We do have the beach of course and there is a waterpark (Ocean Breeze) which is not far from the beach. For some reason I just can't think of much to do right around here. I know that's sad and I know there is more, we have numerous parks and shopping centers/malls. You can go to the Virginia Zoo in Norfolk which is only about 20 minutes away, but it's not that great, I've been to better ones. If you are flexable with travel then you can go to Williamsburg, Busch Gardens, and Water Country which is about an hour away depending on traffic. It really depends on what your wanting to do, if you don't have anything other than the aquarium and beach then I would say just the weekend, but if you want to do more than stay longer. If you have any specific questions I would be glad to help if I can.

I've lived here all of my life so I just don't get that enthused about it, but we get lots of tourists every year so there must be something.:rolleyes1

Are Busch Gardens and King's Dominion different things?

Yes, Busch Gardens is roughly 30-40 miles from Va Beach, but add time for traffic. Kings Dominion is 20 minutes north of Richmond, so much further away. If you want to rent a beach house, then a week would be nice.

However, if you just want to hit the aquarium, have 1 beach day, 1 day at Busch Gardens, I'd rent a hotel for 3 nights.

We spent 3 days and it was enough for us. My kids really enjoyed the beach and ocean but 3 days was enough for them. We enjoyed the Aquarium as a break from the beach one afternoon. After that, we headed to DC to finish out the week.
