Does anybody know if this wonderful facility is available this year ?

When we booked up last October we were told that they were looking to re-introduce it but there were no guarantees.

We used this facility in September 2000 and managed to get the exit seats very easily. This co-incided with our overnight stay in the Gatwick Hilton, which we are doing again in June of this year.

I also heard talk of a new type of check in facility from your car, does anybody know what this is about ?

I can't wait till the 10th April, that's when we have to pay the holiday by. When that date comes round you know it's only 10 weeks then.......!!!!

We went last month in the middle of the security alert and it was still operating.

Great scheme and excellent de stresser. Open between 15.30 and 21.00. We got there at 4pm and there were just 2 other people in front of us.

How does this work?

We live only 25 mins by train from Gatwick, but our flights mean we'll be getting on a crowded commuter train with large suitcases (outlet malls beckon :)) on trains that have no facility for luggage (this is Connex, or whoever these days, doesn't matter that the trains run through a major airport!!) on the day of departure.

So, could we pop to Gatwick the afternoon before and check in our bags? Would the kids have to come too (I suppose logically they must if we're checking-in)? Do you have to make arrangements to do this beforehand?

Would be great just to travel with hand luggage on the day.

All views gratefully accepted :)

You don't have to arrange beforehand, just turn up with everything, including intened hand luggage (& kids).

Yes, you can check in your luggage from 15.30-21.00 the day before. Everyone who is flying must attend the check-in. You will also have to let them know where you are staying for the night. It's a great service and one of the reasons we always fly Virgin, although we stay at the Gatwick Hilton overnight.

Would they let you if you're going home then, not to a hotel?

I can imagine they have security issues with that situation maybe...

No problem if you're going home. As long as they can contact you if needed you can stay anywhere.
