Virgin Prices? Are these good?

Hi,

I am planning a 7-10 day trip and I just priced 7 days on Virgin Holidays. I got a price of £2055 for 7 nights at the YC, two economy flights and a rental car. I have not looked into park tickets yet. My husband and I are going to run the WDW marathon on January 8, 2006.

Do these prices look okay? Who has used Virgin before either holidays or just flights. What did you think? Thanks!

Virgin are a great company. I have travelled with many airlines and always found Virgin to be the best in terms of service and amenities. We have used Virgin Holidays before too and they were perfect, although expensive.

As for your quote, it does seem a little expensive. Perhaps you could try simply booking a flydrive through Virgin Holidays and then booking the Yacht Club separately? I am quite sure this would work out cheaper.

Even at rack rate (discounts almost definitely will be available for your trip in January) a regular room at the Yacht Club should not be much more than £1000 for 7 nights.

A flydrive in January is £399/adult.

The saving is not much, but remember that there is a very good chance that room-only discounts will be available, reducing the Yacht Club price further. Visit www.dreamsunlimitedtravel.com for a quote and to compare the prices.

Virgin arent generally the cheapest to book with direct, but I have to say that does look like a pretty good deal. If this is your third (or more) Virgin Holiday, dont forget to sign up to their Frequent Virgin program as that saves you 10% off the entire cost of your holiday.

It maybe worth having a crack at pricing it up yourself. Its a very cheap time of year to go and you may find a better deal by using someone other than Virgin direct. If you want, I can give you the link to who we use (Disney specialist who can get great deals on Virgin flights and WDW rooms). PM me and I will send you the link if you are interested.

PS..GOOD LUCK with the Marathon!

Just wanted to point out that if you haven't booked 3 holidays with virgin, you could always join Frequent Flyers instead. I just got 10% off my virgin package holiday and have only flown once before with virgin. Might be worth checking out for you.

I went with Virgin last year and upgraded to premier seats. Yes it was fantastic and the staff were really nice. However never again. We were wet behind the ears and never knew no better. If you have money to burn then book with Virgin.

Last year I stayed at a Disney Hotel and the full package came to £4000.00 the seats we sat on were a 38inch pitch and the TV Screens were much bigger. Like I said before the whole trip was great.
This time we are going with First Choice. We have again up graded our seats which are the same pitch sizes as virgin and the TV Screen is the same to. All the benefits we got last time we are getting the same this time. But the big difference is, this holiday is costing us £2300.00. And we are doing the exact same holiday.

Get a quote off Virgin for your holiday and then ring around. Every time I spoke to a travel agent I told them that I wanted the best price as I had a few people coming back to me with quotes. Everytime I got a quote I knocked £50/£100.00 off it and told the next travel agent that price. I bet you that by the time you have finished you will be able to go almost first class with another airline for the same money you were quoted with Virgin for basic seats. If you can, try and upgrade. It means you dont have to queue up when you get to the airport to check in and they put you on the plane first and let you off first. Also the seats and the treatment are so much better.

I was going to book again with Virgin this year as I was so impressed with the service last year. But after a few wise words from some close friends who work in the travel business I soon woke up. Remember although it is a long flight it is only 8 hours of your holiday on the plane (16 in total) so look around.

I would never book with a back street firm but try ringing the big high street travel agents and play them off each other. You will be shocked with the end result. And always get the name and direct line number of the person you were dealing with.

People will say that Virgin planes are much better, How do the know? Do they work for Virgin? All the big companies are trust worthy and worth a phone call and lets face facts, a plane is a plane at the end of the day (with in reason of course)

Tell the travel agent you do not want there travel insurance. Look around and get your own. This is an area of your holiday where you will get screwed if your not careful. The lady at first choice told us not to book it with them as we could get it so much cheaper else where, she was right. But it was nice of her to tell us. Also First Choice do a service where you can book in your luggage the day before you go on holiday (I think that cost £5.00 extra) which is a good idea.

Tap in the company that your thinking of flying with in the search bar and see what people have to say about the airline.

I have also heard that Travel City Direct are really good but I have never used them.

I hope I have helped.

Vinny

PS. If you do go with Virgin you will have a nice flight.

I'm going with Virgin this year - but it's for my 21st birthday (and my first holiday without 'adult supervision'!) so I'm treating myself (and I wanted to make everything as easy as possible). I've flown with First Choice before (although not to Florida) and I wasn't fussed on their planes - maybe they are better when going international though!

I've been with Travel City Direct to Florida, and I can't remember anything bad.

With Virgin you can also check-in your luggage beforehand (online or via the 'twighlight check-in'), and you can do it coming back at Downtown Disney.

With most things though I agree with Vinny - look around and find something that works for you.
Like I said, for me it was important to make everything as simple as possible and get it all in one package - it's my first holiday alone for me and my boyf so we didn't want to make it more complicated for ourselves :) - and so we booked with Virgin. Our intinery:
- ASMo (16 nights)
- Ultimate Park Hopper
- 2-Day/2-Park Universal/IOA tickets
- Planet Hollywood tickets
- Hilton Gatwick
- Economy (but I'm doing twighlight check-in and am going to request exit-row seats!)
= £1210 each [total of £2420] (give or take a few pennys!)
I don't think that that's too bad.. (staying at Disney from Dec 7 - Dec 23 2005 - so that price includes the extra charge over the last three days that we're there).

And enjoy the marathon! (I'm a runner as well as a WDW fanatic!)

Vinny,

We were going to do the upper class seats as it seemed pretty reasonable at the upgrade price of £500 per person each way. That was only to weeks ago and now the seats are no longer available on the return flight.

Does anyone know how much an economy flight should go for in January to Orlando if I tried to put together my own package? I am getting really worried that the resorts will fill up for marathon weekend. I have been contemplating staying offsite at the new Ritz property (or maybe splitting my stay).

Thanks for all the information...I will look at First Choce as well.

VSL,

It looks like you got a great package! You are going during high season and staing a lot longer than me for abou the same price as I was quoted. I better do my homework!

Also check out Funways Holidays. Having previously booked with Virgin Holidays for all my holidays, I gave them a go this time. Exactly the same hotel, flights, etc, but £500 cheaper. Only difference is the car hire is with Alamo and not Dollar.

Are they on the web? Thanks!

Hi guys, i booked with Virgin for september 2006 for 3 weeks, staying 1 week at
All Stars Movies, 2nd week I Drive quality inn plaza & 3rd week Hilton Clearwater Beach.
For 2 adults & 1 child/teenager (aged 12) this cost us £2279 but does not include park tickets or insurance (not driving either). I thought this was a great deal, does anyone agree??? Just curious!

I booked mine online - maybe that made some difference? :confused3
It does seem strange though, that mine should cost less - considering that I'm staying longer and stuff!
