Anyone experienced using virgin sales to spend miles?

Want to book a trip for next year but can't yet. Do sales happen often? If so when in the year? Do they offer big savings? Are they pretty limited?

There is a miles sales due to end tomorrow they are usually 25% less miles.

Normally its a couple of times a year.

Yeah my flights for next year won't be available yet so trying to find out if there s a regular pattern etc

Can't answer your question but keep checking. I got a pretty decent deal with the extra miles given in the current miles sale. I had to buy a few extra but still saved a decent amount. Basically made PE seats about £250 more overall than economy seats for four adult seats both ways :) The deal would have worked out even better for economy, but I was only interested in PE seats.

From what I've seen it happens at least a couple of times a year. There were some decent deals in the post Xmas sales this year. The prices looked good on some flights, £836 for PE, but only during quiet times and out of summer on the orlando route. I suspect VA know that the route is busy so people will pay regardless so no real incentive to offer discounts on busy periods. Both PE and UC were full both ways on our flights this month (actually they had one PE seat left lol) and that was during a quiet time (although only one flight per day rather than the two you get over the summer).

Will be for a quiet time of year and we try and fly on no weekend days. Will see if we have enough when the flights are available and if not wait for a sale and hope!

Pe always seems to be full even when economy is empty

FWIW we just booked PE LHR-JFK returning MCO-MCR for 3 adults for around 140k miles and £1250. This was after the 25% sale. July 2015 All of the flights that were available pre-sale that we were looking at were immediately discounted so I do think it is a genuine sale and not just the odd flight. I needed 10k extra miles so it was good that the cost of buying miles also had 25% bonus on. Good luck!

Is that pe both flights?

A return to MCO from LGW/MAN in E needs 42,500 miles, PE needs 70,000.

In the reward seat sales these amounts are reduced by 25% and it covers all dates where there are reward seats available (which isn't every flight). There are the taxes to pay on top on the miles used too.

Yes, just rooted out the paperwork for next July's trip.

Heathrow - JFK (Premium Economy)
Orlando - Manchester (Premium Economy)

In the sale this cost 140,625 miles and £1230.48 taxes/fees/charges for three adults.

I dealt with the most fabulous VA agent Katie (x33136) who chatted through the options, and told me what I needed to do to transfer and buy miles. When we'd decided the best options she put the flights on hold for me and called me back later in the day.

Cool does it make a difference booking return or one way? Ie should i book outward when its available and the ditto the return but seperate. If your using miles it shouldnt make a diff right

That's right, there's no cash or miles benefit in booking a return. The outbound will be costlier due to the taxes so it isn't 50/50
