Hi,
Just wondering if Virgin Atlantic enforce the demensions of the cabin baggage allowance? We have the normal bag with wheels but on the Vigin site it states that ours is still just a little bit to big and that it shouldn't be larger than a laptop bag or briefcase. We have never flown with Virgin before so I'm just wondering how strict they are :) . Compliance however wouldn't be a problem as all the usual stuff I bring that I don't want lost can't be brought onboard now.

At the moment the baggage restrictions are quite strict and are being enforced quite rigourously. There is rumoured to be an announcement this week though which will see an easing of the current situation. :)

Keep checking back here as I am sure it will be posted soon after the official announcment is made.

The announcement was meant to be made today, so either they've changed their minds or they've delayed it :confused3

Either way there hasn't been anything on the news, the Virgin website, or the internet. Fingers crossed they allow bigger bags though or we won't be taking much on board for my toddler!! :furious:

No change yet, here are the current regulations which are being enforced by BAA, and which the airlines have to follow.

Claire ;)

ive been waiting all day to hear if things have got better, but no news :confused3

Does anyone know what and when we might hear?

Was supposed to be today, that's all I know!

It's a real shame - it was our last hope really of taking a decent sized bag on board. Still, I don't mind at all if it's for our safety. :goodvibes

The BBC said yesterday that the Government and the Airline Authorities were still in talks about that but I see that they finally released word in another thread.

Saw it on Sky news last night and here is what it says on the Virgin Atlantic Website

Virgin Atlantic passenger information

"Updated 21st September at 16:30 UK local time

With effect from 02:00 UK local time on 22nd September 2006, passengers departing from UK airports with Virgin Atlantic will be permitted to carry one item of cabin baggage each, equal in size to those carried before restrictions were introduced on 10th August.

Cabin baggage must not exceed a maximum length of 56 cm, width of 36 cm and depth of 23 cm including wheels, handles, side pockets etc. Other bags, such as handbags, may be carried within the single item of cabin baggage. All items will be x-ray screened and must not exceed 6 kilos in weight."

I'm happy about the news but am going to try and pare it down some. I just want to be able to take our bag with wheels :).

BUT Virgin haven't updated their site yet.

Perhaps they're keeping the old regulations?

I think BAA decide not Virgin, so i guess Virgin will update eventually. Though im surprised they didnt do this yesterday? :confused3 Its in their customers interest to have accuarte information.

am I reading things right that although only 1 bag per person, at Duty free you can purchase stuff ie a book etc and that can be carried on as an extra bag?

I must be confused because I posted the link to what I understand is Virgins update? They state that as of yesterday they have gone back to the old regulations and we can now once again take the bigger bag. If I'm missing something please fill me in :) .

Lindys right its BAA who make the rules not virgin, so the dimensions in Kristinas post are correct

Sorry - it must have been me who got it wrong!

It was first thing this morning when I checked the website and it hadn't been updated then. My apologies!

And a banana dance now we can take on chunky bags again
