Virgin Holidays Discount Trick

Hi all,
We've booked our holiday through Virgin, and have come up with a way to get a bit of money off, so thought I'd share it with you all!

When you book through Virgin you can pay at Debenhams with Debenhams Gift Cards, and likewise at House of Fraser. We found that people are selling unwanted gift cards on ebay, for usually around 10% off what they're worth (sometimes more). We bought a whole bunch of these and took them in at the weekend, and paid off some of our balance - worked a treat!

The only other thing I would mention is that if you have more that 3 giftcards, they have to combine them all on to one in the shop before they can do the transaction, and that got a bit tricky and confusing trying to keep track of how much was on each one, in case one doesn't have the balance it's supposed to and you need to return it. If you have lots of giftcards, best to take them into the shop in advance, check the balances and combine them onto one card, for a quick and easy transaction with Virgin

Hope that helps someone! We used Tesco vouchers as well, so are getting a great deal with this little trick! I'll get DH to add up the cost of all our gift cards and work out how much we've saved overall

I still have a HoF £30 gift card knocking around somewhere... That's about 5% of the cost of one economy ticket paid for already

Thanks for the tip can I ask what you have used your tesco vouchers for??? Can they be used with virgin holidays???

They could be used with virgin holidays, but they've recently stopped doing it - we managed to get in just in time and got around £700 off the total that way. Hoping they'll bring it back at some point, has always seemed to work out well for us! X

I would be very careful doing this.... How do you know you are getting the value stated on the card, you could be getting much less, then you have to prove to Ebay that it was less etc.... seems a bit of a risk to me.

That discount voucher, whats the terms and conditions.... prob can only be used for certain holidays, no other discounts maybe only 1 voucher per booking...

Am not saying its a Bad idea, but just be very careful with Ebay.

Hi guys,

Just coming back to this as DH finally worked out how much we saved on our trip, and thought it might help someone to use some of our savings!

The original holiday total cost was £4107. This includes:
2 adults...
Premium economy direct flights on Virgin,
5 nights at Coronado Springs with free DDP
9 nights at Wyndham Lake Buena Vista in a Disney View tower room
14 days Disney Park tickets
$100 gift card

We saved
- £765 (using £255 of Tesco Clubcard Vouchers)
- £207.50 (buying £2812.85 worth of Debenhams and House of Fraser vouchers for less than their value by buying lots of them on eBay, and 2 from the Health Service Discounts website at 5% off (I work for the NHS))
- £353 by upgrading to the Disney View room at Wyndham. We were originally quoted £145 for the upgrade. When we came to do it, there had been a change in the contracts (or something!) so the prices had changed, meaning that by making a change to our booking (upgrading our room), instead of paying the £145, we were actually refunded £208!!!

Not sure if that all adds up, it's gotten a little tricky to work out, but overall we think we have paid:
£2722.50

giving us a grand total saving of...
£1384.50 (-£255 if you think of the cash value of the Clubcard vouchers, and + $100 if you do the same for the free Disney giftcard!).

Sorry for the long spiel, just wanted to show you all that you can get a great deal with Virgin if you're savvy/lucky!
