I recognised that it was last minute, and was I expecting them to say no availability, but I emailed VH and asked if any last minute PE seats were available (1/8 MAN to MCO). Well - lo and behold : yes there are four seats available for us (2 adults and 2 DS) - guess the price for the upgrade :

£3,500

:rotfl2::scared1::rotfl2:

Does anybody else think that that's rediculous?

At this point, my 8 year old DD would have the opportunity to use her new favourite word: LUDICROUS!

Do you know what is even more ridiculous? They tell you they want that now, so nobody in their right mind buys them. Then you arrive for check in and they sell them at £150 each. Now I seriously have to question the ethics on that.

Obviously we know you are intelligent - so I assume you laughed right back at them!

:eek::eek::eek:
thats another holiday...!
you would be better seeing if you can upgrade at the airport

I said, rather too cheekily, that i'd buy them for £2k - the reply was very funny - perhaps we should only consider flying PE just one way if I only want to spend £2,000 !!!! :rotfl2:

It's not likely I guess, but if they have them available for £150 each at checkin, then I might pop it on a credit card. We might check in really early and ask for extra leg room seats - I think they are only £30 each!!!

We have never flown transatlantic before and neither have we flown with Virgin. What are the options at check in that we can ask for? And how early do we need to get there in order to stand a chance?

And you think YOU were cheeky :eek: I wouldn't have known whether to :rotfl2: or :stir::furious:

Your options are always better the earlier you check in, however it really depends on how full the flight is. I phoned to actually book upgrades in February for our October flights and there were NO PE seats coming back and only 3 available on the outbound. So a flight like that, if you really want to upgrade you are best paying for it.

If there is a change to upgrade at the airport, how much do they normally charge? I always wondered and never really asked or had the money to.

It varies greatly and sometimes the "discount" offered is really not worth it if you didn't feel it was worth paying for the seats upfront. Other times they have pretty good discounts. There is absolutely no way of telling and as I said previously, there may not be any upgrade seats for sale at all. Also, a smaller party, especially solo travellers and couples have a better chance of availability.

And no reason why it shouldn't happen for you. You can try for an extra legroom seat at check in. They are quite cheap but give you some extra space. :goodvibes

Can you get the extra leg room if you have children???

Yes, I did it with DD when she was younger. It is not the same as the emergency exit seats but you can only purchase them at check in. :)

Okay thanks i will bare that in mind when we go September, hubby would love the extra leg room. I wll ask quietly at check-in to see with out him knowing, no big deal if we can't get anything but worth a try.

Hugs

Talking of extra leg room seats, do you know which seats that is on the MAN - MCO plane. I'm not gonna ask if they are right by the toilets for example.

While I do understand the underlying stategy Virgin are taking with their pricing I think they are majorly overplaying their hand right now. They no longer offer the premium product they once did and at this point they are simply driving a lot of their previously brand loyal customers away.

Makes me mad/sad (take your pick depending on my mood).

Can't help with where the best bulk head seats are I'm afraid.

upgrading depends on what class ticket you have, as some cannot be upgraded
I think the extra leg room seats man-mco are at the back something like row 61 62 , we were in these a few yrs ago, and although they are near the toilets its not a prob, infact there is a bit of space there for you to stand, if you want a break from watching the films, we stood there for a good couple of hrs chatting away

Can you purchase the extra leg room seats at online check in or do you have to forego that and check in at the airport? The reason I ask is that at online check in you get the option to select new (same cost) seats so wouldn't want to lose that for a not guaranteed upgrade :confused3

Id have said 'If they were £3,000 id have had them aswell!' Thats mental isnt it! I can understand paying £150, id never do it, probably because i cant afford it, but i wish i could, but THREE GRAND!:rotfl:
