:confused3 was looking at flight prices nov 2009 looked jan 21 looked to day up 300.00 pounds :confused3

all the cheap fare codes must be gone for those dates, lucky you got yours when you did

We purchased our PE Virgin flights in December for next October.

I checked last week and ours had gone up by £700.00.:crazy2:

I had past experience of this happening the previous year so felt quite confident that the flights would only go up not down :upsidedow

My PE flights have gone up £400 and now economy is the same price as we paid for PE.

When i used to work for VA they sell the lower fare codes off first and then all that is left is the y fare in economy which can work out just as expensive as a cheap pe ticket.

A nightmare when your trying to book flights

I was lucky then as I would hate to pay that much for economy flights and I would not have been able to afford PE flights at the price they are now.

So are you saying that its best to book the flights as soon as they are released?

Is this the same whether you book by VA direct or by VH as a package?

I am hearing such conflicting advice....!!

Please help! I am looking to go July 2010 - I have specific dates due to the school hols.

So should I wait until August and book direct with VA 11 months prior to travelling? Or wait until VH release their packages which could be within the next couple of months?

This next holiday is costing me a fortune as my kids will be 16 and 14, so I'll be buying 3 adult tickets.

Any advice on the cheapest way forward?

Thanks

dont know if there is a set way to book flights with Virgin as far as i can work out, for this years flights i booked them october last year when they had a USA SALE got a really good price of about £960.00 total for 2 adults and 1 child.... I was really happy with that anyway... It then went down again in Jan again for some reason.. But it has now rocketed up by over £300 ????

There was a flight sale on Jan - thats why they will have gone down.

I paid £295 each for virgin flights this Sept/Oct during the flight sale and now they are £460 each!

I think flights CAN be cheap early on or during a sale but then they go up, particularly during the winter months (most popular time to book so i've heard, wonder why..! ;)) but then much nearer the time they may go down again. I won't be booking ours until they go to £300 per person or less and i'm 99% certain they will (flights from Manchester to New York seem to end up really cheap last minute at most times of the year, aside from maybe Christmas)

The problems I have always found with the Virgin sales is that (as expected) the sale prices are not available for when I need to travel in the school holidays. We have flown to various USA airports with Virgin either in August or for the Christmas/New Year period and have always found it best to book the flights direct as soon as they become available (we can not book a package as we stay DVC, or have multi hotel trips which can only be booked direct with the hotels.) We are pricing up how much we need to save to book our Christmas 2010 flights this time next year, they are looking at just over £900 for ecomony and around £1500 for PE (per person!!) ouch!!
