We fly with Virgin every year and are going again with them next month.

Also have a holiday with them booked for next April but are thinking of changing it and going for longer in August, when our son is off school for several weeks.

Checked the prices on the official virgin.holidays website last night and the fly drive price is £829 - which is very steep, not only that though there was also a charge of £30 each for travelling during the 'peak' times of the year.
What a rip off - the fly drive price itself is already more expensive than at any time of the year.
Not sure what we are doing yet.

Having only ever been in October and November I couldn't belive the Virgin prices at Xmas either :guilty: We have 2 flights booked with flying club miles but had to pay for the third.I had to convince myself it was worth it of course as 2 of the flights cost tax only :confused3

That price sure is steep for August.Have you tried other companies that use Virgin flights they are usually cheaper,Funway Holidays is very good?

We haven't tried any others yet Kazzie no.
The thing is we booked a holiday with Virgin for next April but my wife now working as a school teacher really means we are better off going in July/August when our son is off too.
Hence we were looking at moving it - just couldn't believe that on top of the £829 price they want an additional £30 each too - it's a disgrace.

We flew Virgin last time, and are booked with them for next May, but I do think that Virgin are relying (and basing their prices) on past reputations, when they did used to be a fair bit better than their opposition. Nowadays, the likes of First Choice and others offer the same if not more legroom and facilities, so its high time Virgin woke up and reminded us why they are dearer than all the others.

Hi, we're flying with TCD next July (same school holiday problem) and even with extra legroom seats and prebooking we're still only paying around £600 pp. I know opinions differ on them but, having been with them twice before including last year during hurricane Charley, I wouldn't chose anyone else.

Are you sure the £30 isn't a fuel supplement, thats the norm at the mo although some charters are showing fuel supps as low as £12 each so may be worth shopping around

It is a fuel supplement - at least that's what it said a few weeks ago when I was going through the booking process to see how much it would cost for next summer.

I booked last year so my fuel supplement is only £5 (each).
My peak charge is for the hotel (not the flight), and my weekend supplement is £15 (each).

No its not a fuel supplement, that is on there at £48 each - it is called a PEAK SEASON FLIGHT SUPPLEMENT and the total charge is £60..
like I say the price is already increased to £829 anyway so....??

Johnny - I absolutely share your sentiments. We are travelling in August this year and the price Virgin want for that now is £900+

We booked 11 months before to lock in the cheapest prices possible and saved a lot compared to that figure (we decided to go with BA in the end) but I'm sure we paid less than £400 each in August 02 with Virgin (and that included accommodation - this time we are doing flight only). That is some inflation!!

We have priced up TCD many times but never found them any cheaper than booking at 11 months scheduled. Next August we are flying charter and paying the same price we have this time with BA (but chose to do this as we are flying from Cardiff which is vaguely closer to home than Gatwick).

The prices are horrendous!

ETA - these are economy flights, no upgraeds or anything. Just the basic seat :)

We were thinking of going next August too...we started pricing up the flights from Newcastle for the last week in August...omg its not just Virgin that are expensive. The charters were coming in at £750+
We did have a look at TCD and they did seem to have some good prices. Basic flydrive was £308 pp then you had all the extra's on..car hire etc..etc..

Hi Miffy - yeah I know, the price for our April holiday comes to £1700, for July/August it is just under £3000.
What is really annoying is the brochure shows a fixed price between the 16th July and 20th August of £829, but in the smallprint has an additional extra of £30 each - for the same exact dates!! - so why not just put £859 in the first place?
We really like Virgin but their prices are really getting out of hand now, the problem is the competition is not that brilliant, with all due respect to TCD - in terms of direct flights to Orlando International/DD check in etc, plus they have always given us bulkhead seats (our boy is Autistic).
Anyway we have our trip to look forward to next month so next year can wait...

Not defending TCD or anything but with regards the above points:

1. Why fly into Orlando International with the double handling of baggage on arrival, in some cases courtesy bus to pick up your hire car etc. I know its a bit nearer the magic but Sanford is sooooooo easy to deal with (one arrivals terminal, Uk friendly Immigration and a doddle to use Welcome centre)

2. I presume DD checkin means Downtown Disney?..... TCD is also offering prior checkin at LBV for departures according to this board.

Virgin & Airtours are both quoting a 14 day villa holiday in mid September at over £800 pp. TCD is less than half that!

One idea that we have used in the past, is for one (or two) to book fly-drive and if necessary pay the upgrade price for a larger car and then the remainder of the party book SuperApex flights with directly with VA (on the same flight of course). This can greatly reduce the costs.
