Hi,

I read somewhere that with the virgin credit card you can earn points, which you can put towards flights as well as other stuff, but after checking their website, it only says that the points go towards dvd's and hot air balloon flights etc. but no mention about flights.

Does anyone have a virgin credit card?

Or does anyone know about how I can get one that earns me points for flights?

Thanks, and have a lovely weekend all.

Hi Tink78

Yeah I've got one of those but found out after that I had the wrong one - I'll get round to changing it one of these days!

The one you want is the Virgin Atlantic one - not found the link for this yet but have a look on the Virgin Atlantic website for it - let me know if you find it.

There are two versions of the card.A free one where you earn 1 Virgin mile per ££ spent or one with a fee of £80 a year where you earn 2 Virgin miles per pound spent. If you spend loads on your card as I do,then the £80 fee will be worth the double miles.

Also if you spend £15,000 or more a year you get a free companion ticket for any flight booked :cool1:

I've got the version of the card which gives Virgin frequent flyer miles. It is very useful if you collect miles towards free flights or upgrades, but the interest charged on the card is very high so I wouldn't advise it unless you pay your monthly statement in full.

Absolutely. We don't use this particular credit card very often, but it is especially useful when we need a little miles-boost for an upgrade or companion ticket (especially when we use it to buy Virgin Wines!).

:wizard:

Ooh, thanks for all the info peeps.
I knew I could count on you guys.

Will apply today.

Yippie, all applied for.
Now I need to get spending in order to get some free flights to WDW.

So, how does it work?
I know I get 1 mile for every £1 that I spend, so say Orlando is 4000 miles, do I need to spend £4000 to get a free flight?

Thanks

Is there a time limit to how long you can accumulate the miles before they have to be used?

The miles can be added on and added on. The expiration date is 3 years from when you last had miles added to your FC account. :)

Tink 78 I hate to shatter your illusions, but ! mile isn't really a mile. We're saving ours for a trip to Vegas in 2007 to celebrate our 10th wedding anniversary - 40000 miles each (yes, that's 40 thousand). We cashed in 4000 recently to get cheaper tickets to Orlando (4000 miles + £900 or so for me, DH, DD & baby (where tax was more than flight)). We always pay our bill off in full, so for us it's a sort of something for nothing really.

So, for two of us to get there for free, we would need to spend £80,000 on the credit card!! Wow! That's a lot of shopping.

If I did that much shopping I don't think I would still have a DH!! :rotfl:

That's good that you can use some of points to put towards the flight costs to get discount though.

How much did you have to spend to get 4000 miles if you don't mind me asking, and do you have the card with an annual fee, or the free one?

We were talking last night and we might think about going Nov 2007, so I need to know how much I need to spend before I get something back in return.
We also clear our card every month.
Is there a minimum amount of miles I need to earn before I can get some discount on flights?

Sorry for all the Q's!!!

We took out a CC each, and were awarded 3000 miles just for taking the card out. These were added to the miles already earned from the last 2 trips to Orlando (8672 miles each time), so we started from a reasonable base. We don't pay the annual fee. We've just built an extension & purchased all materials ourselves using the CC. We put everything on CC & only use our switch card for withdrawing cash. As we've got a one account mortgage, our money sits in a/c longer so we pay less interest. I've just looked in the programme guide & it says just 2000 miles in your a/c are enough to start saving money on your economy flights, 7500 for a saving on PE & 15000 for upper class (I should be so lucky).

I hope that answers some/all of your questions.

Thanks for all the info.
Hope we get approved for cards, and then we can get spending.

I think we don't get any miles for taking the cards out this time, but once we make our first purchase using the card we get some extra points or something.

Can't wait to start building them up.

:cool1:
