Hi

We fly on sunday and I'm a little confused about the prepurchase of extra bags with Virgin. I know I can purchase them during online check-in. Is this obvious and easy to do?

BUT, it says the following on their site:

1st Extra Bag if prepurchase Online - GBP32/USD48 At Airport - GBP40/USD60

2nd Extra & Subsequent Bags Prepurchase GBP32/USD48 at airport - GBP90/USD140

- The above GBP charges apply to all UK departures.
- For all other departures, the USD charge will be applied and converted to the local currency where applicable.

So does that mean that if I only prepurchase one extra bag for the return journey when I do the outbound online check-in and then decide we need another, I'll be charged £90? Or can I prepurchase an extra one while I'm out there by checking in online on my laptop while at Disney for the return journey at the £32?

Can anyone explain it please? :confused3

My guess is that if you need an extra bag on the way out, you will certainly need one on the way back. I would pre-order for both routes with online check in. I have never done it, except with airmiles some years back so I dont know how this new policy works. I would email them. Go into the Contact Us link on their website and then copy and paste the email address from there into your recipient box and send it from your own email. Reason being, they are extremely prompt to respond but going through the link on the website, my emails appear never to have reached them.

We don't need an extra one for the way out...but we're assuming we need one on the way back, so I'm going to prepurchase it for the return journey when I do online check in for outbound. I heard that was possible...am I wrong? I'm reluctant to wait for them to reply to an email because last time it took me 3 emails and two months to get a reply :sad2:

I have always had a reply within 12 - 24 hours. But as I said, do not send the email through the webite link - rather paste or type their address into your address bar on your email and send it from there. I will go and have a nosey on the VA site and see if I can make any more sense of it. ;)

Not much info I can find that you don't already have. I don't see where it says you can purchase in advance for your inbound flight when you do online check in for the outbound though. I would send an email tonight and if you don't hear by Friday morning, maybe give them a ring. And the new baggage system was supposed to simplify things???!!! :rolleyes1

I know, sooooo excited :-) :dance3:

That would be nice of you, thank you. I've sent and email, if/when I hear I'll post :thumbsup2

Email sent :goodvibes Hopefully they won't ruin their track record! :rotfl:
