Virgin Atlantic - Where do we stand?

Thanks Islandmum....we are very excited, we like to get out and about so sounds perfect for us, all of the photos look like paradise so a perfect way to spend a romantic honeymoon!

Update on the name change:

I have spoken to staff and supervisors at VA customer services today, they are unwilling to do anything at all with regards to this. I have explained about how loyal I am to Virgin and told them to check over the records etc but they seem to be sticking firmly on this one. :headache:

Our only option is to cancel the passenger and get the £192 taxes back (less £30 admin fee...) and then rebook for nearly £600 so we will lose £290 and then have to pay £600! Great!! All other passengers were £460 and for the sake of changing a name, we will be £890 lighter in our bank for one more person to come - joke!

OK so the rules are definately the rules. One thing is for certain, I will NEVER book with VA again for a group!!

It will be no different with any other airline.

Rules are rules, yes, but I would fight your corner and don't give up. Especially since they have already changed your booking. Last year they changed our booking and moved us to a different flight then moved our prebooked seats separating us. I threatened to cancel the whole booking and get my money back (which I would have been entitled to as they no longer had the flight I had paid for) and book with BA so they put us together quick smart after I threatened that.

It did leave a taste in the mouth. Their customer service people are terrible mostly. We booked with BA this year.

Yes that may well be the case but my point that I was making was that I wouldnt book with VA or any other airline directly. I will book through an operator in future.

In theory, perhaps. In reality, untrue.

No, in reality true.
As has been explained above, this is not the ruling of an individual airline, rather the rules under which they operate.

If you have actual proof of any airline allowing a change of person, not name, but actual passenger, after booking, please provide it as then I can report them to IATA.

If you think that you will have changes to passengers, that's probably the best thing to do, as Airlines book straight away and the booking by passenger is confirmed at that point. Travel agents, unless very close to the departure date, don't release the names until close to departure date.

Yeh, thats most definately what I will have to do, weve had this problem before but we booked through an operator that time so there was no problem...

Our Florida booking always seem to curse members of our families relationships...

We love going as a couple anyway (just please ourselves) so we think that will be the best bet from now on! :)

Thank you for all your advice though.......a lesson to be learnt....ALWAYS read the T & C's in full......:rotfl:

I dont mean to ramble on......suppose the rules are there for a reason....

Its just that arranging this wedding and making changes is neverending!! We were one of the unfortunate ones who booked with TCD flying XL before they were no longer! :sad1:

We got all of our money back but we had paid a lot of money for the 8 bedroom villa that we are staying in (there will be 16 of us so needed!!) so we booked in complete panic......(:scared1:......total over-reaction), not wanting to miss out on the date when villa was booked, wedding venue, reception etc!!!

But again....thanks and im over it now :rotfl2:

As I said earlier, last year Delta allowed us a refund on an unrefundable ticket because that person was unable to travel and we then bought another ticket for a replacement person.

Quite why you think you should report anybody to IATA I have no idea. What pompous nonsense.

Because Delta broke the rules that all airlines have to follow?

The fact the Delta gave you a refund does not mean that they followed the rules. They in fact broke the rules by refunding a non refundable ticket a clear breach of IATA rules.
Pompous yes, as I believe the rules are there to be followed, not broken.

i cannot understand why people have to get sooo nasty on this board
no wonder people are dropping off and going elsewhere
why can't people just express their views without having someone getting on their high horse
i suggest this thread is closed just in case it gets more nasty
the op is over it
get a life

Lisa got the info she needed, now getting personal, will have to close.
