Virgin Atlantic Print your own Boardings Cards

Yes I have thx, I just like seats at the back of a section so can put them back without disturbing anyone, Makes no difference really as soon as I have eaten the meal I will be asleep and they will have to wake me to land. Lucky I can sleep anywhere.

Houston we have a problem.
Two in my party are working the day before we go and we were going to meet at gatwick about 1930 for twilight checkin.
Our motivation for doing this is to get good seats together (we have 2 little uns) and get rid of the bags.
Problem is if others have been checking in on line from 1045am the good seats will be gone before we get there.
What details do I need to check everybody in, passport numbers?
Is bag drop open the day and evening before a morning flight?
Here's the big question.....
Can I check everybody in 24 hours before and then we could meet at gatwick that evening as planned to drop off bags?
With the poor service I've had from virgin over this holiday I don't trust the answer they'd give me as to whether this is possible.
I'm sure a trusty DISer will know.

I remember from a previous post your DD is 19 months old is that when she travels? If so does she have her own seat? From the FAQ on VA's website if there are infants on laps in the group you cannot use on line check in.

Claire ;)

Hi Claire, yes daughter is 19mo when we travel but she has her own seat.
So do you think we should checkin online?
Do you reckon we could drop the cases off that evening?
thanks

I would also like to know if you check in on-line, can you drop your bags off the night before the flight. It sounds alot easier to do this.

I just found this on the Virgin Atlantic FAQ

Online Check In
At London Gatwick, Twilight check in can also be used for online check in bagdrop

so it looks like we can. I will try it on Tuesday and if the worst comes to the worst we are staying at the Sofitel overnight anyway so if they won't let us bag drop we can take the cases to the hotel and drop them off on Wednesday morning.

I printed our boarding sheets yesterday no problem, got to airport this morning. 3 hours to departure bag drop off had about 4 families in front of me, regular check in had about 15. Was quicker but when we got to front of line she tore up the printed passes and had to reprint as the machine that reads own printed passes was down.

I'd be interested to know if it as easy to do the on-line check in for the journey back from Florida. We tried it two years ago but didn't get anywhere (the check in screens were different for some reason) and ended up having to go to Downtown Disney for the early check in as usual.

Has anyone checked in on-line for the journey home recently? Or is anyone planning to? Presumably having the Boarding passes will then mean there is no need for the early check-in at DD.

This is going to sound REALLY silly, but i kinda like having a 'REAL' boarding pass with the stub to keep for a memory of each trip.
If i do online check-in and print off the boarding pass, do they then give me a 'real' borading pass, or do i just continue to use the printed sheet?

Thanks!

Stal,

You carry on using the printed sheet but you do get to keep the top half, although its not the same as a traditional boarding pass stub I admit.

By the way, anybody who wants to do online check-in and then drop bags at twilight check-in, we did that no problems at all.

ok another worrier here:)

But what actually happens to the bags that are dropped off early at twilight check in?
do they stay there till your flight, go on an earlier flight? are they kept somewhere safe, anyone ever has anything go missing with twilight check in??

I wonder if my travel insurance still covers me for this.....????

We've done twilight check-in 2 or 3 times and have never had a problem. I believe the bags go on your flight as you still have to wait for them on the other side.

I also have a question, can you do the same in florida check in on-line & drop you bags off at downtown disney?

Our printer is not too good. When we printed off our boarding cards for our Jet 2 Flight, we got to where they check them and the equipment couldn't read the barcode. He tried and tried and was just about to send us all the way back to check in to get proper ones when it did eventually read them. You have to have a good print out! Next time we are going to go into work to print them to be sure.

Hi
Has anyone done online check in recently with little ones with their own seats? My DS will be 9 months when we travel next month but we have bought him a seat. I know when DD was 16 months we did online check in and i had to adjust her DOB to make her 2 as the system wouldn't accept a seat for a one year old. Don't know if I could get away with this again. Obviously it wont correspond with the passport info. I think they list the child as 2 anyway if you buy a seat...not sure.

Also with regards to the extra APD charge, it says infants dont pay but I imagine they pay if occupying a seat. Anyone know?

Thanks,
Mandy :)

Really good question Mandy, when I tried to input my dd19mo pre travel info (passport number birthday etc) it didn't accept it. I cancelled what I was doing, what I think I am going to do is put in whatever Virgin have put in to qualify her as over 2y. I assume that is what they would do at full check in. If it's wrong when I get there, they'll have to put it right, I've had a nightmare with Virgin over this trip and am fed up wih tippytoeing around their rules, they can do something for me for once. At least I'll be allocating those seats and even if my inputted info if wrong and they have to put it right, at least I'll know I should get those seats.
Good luck.
With 13 days to go this is me at the mo :laundy:

Yes they do pay - 3.2 Young children. Although it doesn't mention the recent increase in prise I am sure the rest of the info stayed the same.

What have been the problems with Virgin atlantic Poppyanna?
I would assume that as under 2 an infant does not normally get their own seat, the computer was saying "hang on, under 2 no seat, cannot accept info"

Oh Obi Wan, the problems with Virgin Holidays/Atlantic over this trip are far too many too mention! :lmao: The simpliest enquires have been a major headache.......

BTW - I couldn't input my dd19mo APD as she is on a seperate booking (as we changed her booking from an infant to a child) and a "child" cannot lead a booking (website doesn't accept DOB). I just called Virgin and they updated her APD and I requested a Child Safety seat too. :cool1: Feel like we're really getting close now I can almost smell that aircraft smell.......

Just hope 24 hours before I can do online check in quick enough to get us sitting together, as little one is on a seperate booking, I'm worried I'll find 5 seats together allocate the four to the rest of us go back in and the other one will be gone........unlikely I guess, but possible. :scared1:
