Virgin Atlantic Delays

"tiggertop,

We were at dtd checkin on Friday 27th when you all got the news of the delay. I was talking to a lady who seemed to be with her family and another family. Was that you?... I'm so glad it all worked out well. 50% off thats wonderful. We were on the manchester flight that was delayed 8hours on 10th oct and 6-7 hours of that was spent on the plane, we were given letters with 10% off next flight."

That may well have been me.. I was waiting for my husband to arrive with the rest of the party and thier luggage. So they (actually my mum, dad and my DD ) had a shock when they got there too!
We really didn't mind too much as we got to go back to MGM and see a show we'd missed, and then to be offered a 50% discount was just amazing. I really can't fault Virgin for that
:thumbsup2

Me too I was checking in on that flight! Ok I know lots of people were checking in for that flight that morning - but....Tiggertop you weren't wearing a MNSSHP t-shirt were you?

We really had 2 faffy days. We extended the car hire until the next day and made a trek to DTD the following morning only to be sent away because the computer systems were down and they were doing manual checki-ins......filling out boarding cards etc by hand!!

The 50% discount does look good at first, but it's only on the flight price not taxes, and only on flights that already on offer/discounted. I priced up flights for next Easter and then did a price comparison with Virgin Hols for similar dates with accomodation and there wasn't much in it.

Think we may go for the 25,000 miles they're offering instead.

Are you registered with Virgin Atlantic for the miles? I checked our accounts and we've been given 2 lots of mileage for the return trip - one lot for the 27th and one lot for 28th :Pinkbounc hope it's not a mistake.

Yes, I was wearing a mnsshp t-shirt, a bright orange one! How did you find out that the discount is valid only for on offer/discounted flights? (hope you don't mind me asking)

We checked in at 1pm quite quickly at the airport then spent the rest of the time at the Florida Mall.

Sorry tiggertop think I got carried away typing  meant to say the discount's only valid for flights without any other discounts/promotion. Meant to type aren't not already

Thought it was you cos your mum appeared whilst we were all waiting in DTD :) I was 2 places behind you wearing the brown trousers... it's a small world after all

::yes:: I remember. Certainly is a small world...... I've now got that infernal song stuck in my head ;)

We were on the cancelled flight and we don't seem to be as impressed as everyone else with the way it was dealt with! My main issue is that it would have been soon after 6am in Florida when the flight was due to leave Gatwick, Virgin had all the details of where we were stayng but didn't try to let us know - if they had we wouldn't have had to trawl over to the airport to get the bad news! Also, someone else queueing up with us to find out what was going on had actually phoned in at 11am to check the flight was running ok as they'd had problems on previous flights and they were told yes everything was fine!

Still on the plus side, we are hoping to go to South Africa Easter 2008 so half price fares will come in very useful! :)

And we did have a fantastic fortnight in Florida so we can't complain too much! :cool1:

Mmmm, something seems to be going on here.

We were on VS75 from Manchester on the 11/10 and had a 5 hour delay, which they said was a knock on from the 10/10, all we were given was a 10.00 food voucher.

The films on the flight were September films not the October ones, so the kids films were not as were expecting. The plane was full with kids, so there was a lot of disappointment, as CARS was not showing. On the return flight, we had been promised priates of the carribean, and yet again the films had been messed up.

The return fight was delayed this morning, VS74 to Manchester, by 3 hours caused by a medical problem on the inbound flight. No compensation offered at all.

We also went to downtown to check our bags in and was told the IT was down and we'd have to do it at the airport. When I enquired at the airport, we were told that the IT had been down for 2 weeks!!!.

Come on Virgin get your act together. A letter will be going off to them, to say how disappointed we were. In two minds whether to use them again.

We flew with BA and was very impressed with them, but had booked our flight for next August with Virgin so hope things get better by then. BA was a tiny bit more money, and am now thinking we should just have booked with them again.
