I'm flying Virgin Airlines (in 9 days!) from NYC to LAX to go to Disneyland. I'm trying to avoid checking luggage, especially on the way down, so I can get to the parks as soon as possible.

On the VA website, it says that you can have 2 carry-ons; a piece of luggage no more than 24x16x10 as well as one personal item. It also says that each piece can be no more than 16 pounds!

I have a backpack that I've used as a "personal item" on other airlines with no problem, but VA doesn't list it on their list of personal items. My other carry-on is going to be a typical black rolling suitcase (that just fits the dimensions of 24x16x10).

1. Will I be okay with those two carry-ons?
2. How strict are they about the 16 pound limit? I've never seen a weight limit for a carry-on before, nor have I seen any airline weighing carry-ons.

Thanks!

I would like to know this as well!!!

Do they really weigh all carry ons? That is silly if they did!

I had a question and reached them by phone for claification. It took awhile on hold, but I got my answer. Go to help, then "contact us" for a #, or find the "book by phone" option to get hold of a real, live, person.

I really doubt they'd weigh carry ons, though. How would they do that?

My parents took Virgin to London about 2 years ago and I remember when I dropped them off in the airport that they did weigh their carry-ons. We had to do a last minute shuffling of stuff to their check-in luggage before they could finally check-in. Once my mom's backpack came in under the required weight, it was fine.
