I called to ask a question about our upcoming trip and mentioned that my infant son has allergies, etc. The CM said they can do a VIP clean for our room and double rinse the linens, etc. What exactly does a VIP clean mean? Also, do you know if our room will still be ready by the standard checkin time? TIA!

1) There are two levels of "VIP Clean".
2) Your level includes
. . . double-rinse sheets
. . . extra dusting
. . . deep vacuum carpet
. . . change of covers and spreads
3) The other level is totally different and more thorough. *
4) You are probably not eligible for this level (if you were, you would know).
5) And, chances are that your room won't be ready at check-in.
6) Requests for cleaning can take 2-4 hours to honor the request.
7) If you check-in late, it can take even longer since most maids have gone home.

* This level has a special term and is not available to the general public. One has to ask for it by name and meet special requirements. (As with many WDW special services, unless you know the exact code word, you cannot get the service.)

Also, there isn't a "by standard check-in time".
Despite popular belief/misconception :) hotel/resort check-in is AFTER the published or posted time. At most Disney resorts, it's after 3 PM. Sure, they let you preregister if you arrive before that, and you can get into your room if it's ready - but Guests expect the rooms to all be ready for occupancy BY 3, and sometimes that's just not possible.

The CM had the VIP clean approved by her supervisor and had it added to the ressie. I hope that means that they will know they need to clean it well ahead of us checking in.

Yes, we've had to wait a few times to check in after the check in time. 9 times out of 10, our room has been ready by or before check in time. We've never had the VIP clean, so I wasn't sure how that worked. With a babywho will almost certainly be fussy by that time of day, I hope we don't have to wait too much after the standard check in time.

DD has allergy induced asthma.

Would we qualify for VIP cleaning?

I'd be happy if we could just make sure the room was vaccuumed every day. With dd's allergies I vaccum every carpet, every day at home.

I would definitely think so. I'd call and ask if they could add VIP Clean to your ressie.

1) In many cases, they do not know the room number until you check-in. *
2) Then, an electronic "flash" is sent to Housekeeping to clean the room.
3) After the flash, it is just a matter of when a maid is available to clean.
4) As long as it is a normal VIP Clean, it can be done quickly once they start.
5) If it is the other VIP clean, it can take 3-5 hours just to clean.

* If it is the "normal" VIP clean of which you are speaking, they typically do that usually after a check-in. If it is the other clean, they do that well before a check-in, because it takes so long to do. I once saw a major clean take 6-hours at WL.

When I booked my Sep 2008 stay, I had asked if they could notate that I had allergies and not to have scented products nor strong chemicals in the the room. I orig booked at CBR, but decided to switch to POR. The CM mentioned that as there was a priority cleaning request, he would need to get the switch authorized (or something) by supervisor (or something like that). There was no problem switching, it seemed that he needed to be sure the proper department would be advised that this priority cleaning was now for POR and not CBR.

I arrived at POR about 2pm, and other than the horrendous lineup to checkin in (1/2 hr I'd say), there was no delay and the room was all ready.

The room was very clean... I checked around and under, and no debris or dust bunnies.

..... Checkout day I left with my luggage, passing the maid in the "hallway. Got to luggage check with my luggage to leave until my departure in the PM, and then realized I left my pillow in the room. Walked back over, and tried my Keys to the World/room card, and it still worked. Mousekeeping had already been in, the beds looked made, the towels looked fresh..... I found my pillow (a distinctive pillow) with the other pillows, with a fresh pillowslip over it......
That gave me pause! How clean could that room be that fast?

Interesting...I have bad allergies too...never thought of anything like this. I always try to make sure that there is no visible dust or any cigarette smell at all in the room. I also check for mold. The two times we have been to WDW previously, I never had a problem, but I have in other places...I would definately need to change rooms if the room was dusty or moldy...or especially if there had been anyone smoking in the room. Sometimes even a smoker spending time in the room would bother me.

Interesting...

As obvious, please only request this if absolutely necessary. If everyone tries to use this to just get cleaner rooms, it will not be available for those who have a critical need.
A few years ago we got to our room and the non-smoking room just reeked of smoke. I have smoke induced asthma and my chest was tightening just being in that room.
I called the front desk and explained the situation and they could see my "non-smoking, medical" on my request. They asked if we could vacate the room and they would "deodorize" it. I thought there was no was to get that strong smell out but since we had 3 rooms in a row, switching to another area was not going to be easy.
Anyway 2 hours later I walked in the room and loe and behold- NO SMELL AT ALL! So call me a beliver. ;)

Does the VIP cleaning request work with online check-in? Does anyone know? Thanks!

Actually we got back to our room one day and the maid had just gotten there. She was VERY fast. She cleaned our room, changed the sheets, made the beds, vacuumed, etc. in about 20 minutes. She was very fast and efficient. Just to note she also had help - there was another CM with her helping to change the bedding.

Ha! takes me 20 mins just to convince myself to do the housework!:rotfl:

Strangely enough, it had not even occurred to me to mention "nonsmoking", knowing the WDW resort rooms are to be smokefree. There was no issue w/ smoke fumes in the room. I would not be able to stay in a room/area.

Since my stay I've spent a bit more time on the DisBoards and realize that others have had different, more unfortunate experiences... There are people who think "no smoking in the room" is more of a suggestion than a rule, or that if they stand in the doorway, then they aren't smoking in the room.
(not meaning to start anything here, just an observation)

m&m's Mom, glad to hear that they can really neutralize smoke odors, and in such a short time.

That's good to know...I wouldn't think they could get the smoke smell out in a short time like that. I wouldn't request a VIP cleaning for me unless my allergies became even worse, but it is good to know this option is available for those who do need it...I WOULD, however, very quickly request a new room, especially if there was a problem with cigarette smoke, and especially at a "non-smoking" resort.

I have special permission, and it's noted on my ressie. They asked me to mention it at check-in. I forgot to ask if I could do online check-in, or if I needed to check-in at the desk. Sorry, I think I asked a confusing question!

Update: I called Disney. They said NOT to do online check-in with this request. Just FYI for everyone else...

I'm curious if that level is just a more stringent cleaning, or involves something else. On our last trip I had a VIP clean, and found it to be inadequate to meet my needs. I had several desperate calls to guest services trying to come up with a way I could sleep in the room. The only solution we came up with was to remove the blanket and bedspread completely, put all the pillows up away from the bed, and take higher-than-usual doses of my medications.

I have a trip in a few weeks, and I've requested that we just start with the bed having only sheets and no pillows, as well as the VIP clean. I'll just pack pillows and a light blanket.

My problems aren't allergies, but I've very, very, sensitive to inhaled irritants, and seemed to be getting tiny fibers from some of the bedding. So something like new ventilation filters -might- help, but carpet cleaning is unlikely to.
