Vioxx?

After the recent recall of Vioxx, has anyone contacted their doctor and been advised on an alternative treatment? Is there an alternative prescription drug for arthritis that could be prescribed to replace Vioxx? Or are arthritis patients going to go back to ibuprofen/acetaminophen? Any information is appreciated.

I beleive Celebrex is an alternative.

Yes I had contacted my mom's doctor and he suggested either Celebrex or Bextra like Dan had mentioned to me. My mom did try celebrex, but it didn't work, so she is going to see how she does on Bextra.

I am sticking to my vioxx (prn use) until its gone. I tried Bextra which was prescribed prior to my foot surgery and I had acute fluid retention with increase in blood pressure and I am healthy and in reasonably good shape.

If they are pulling a drug off the market, not only on the U.S., but globally, I think that's a good indication to throw it away!

My mom's doctor said that the company itself is taking it off the market, not the FDA.

MIne unused is already in the mail for a refund, trying without for a few days, if aches return, I have some unused Bextra I had before I went to Vioxx. Hoping I can not take any.

If you are trying the other "anti's" be sure you aren't allergic to sulfa!

I have found it extremely useful as opposed to the alternatives which I haven't tolerated well. Because a per centage of pts did not do well in the study, does not mean that others can't tolerate the drug. Everyone has to make their own decision based on their personal experience with regard to what they want to do with their leftovers.

My Husband takes Voixx/ He agrees with DawnCT1. We contacted the DR. a neurologist he said the danger is after being on it for over 18 mths , his answer continue taking it until the dept head makes a decision this week. He started taking it 3mth ago and his quality of life is much improved.

My Mother is having a problem replacing the Vioxx for exactly this reason
