The only way I know how to describe it. I am so fatigued that I feel like I am in a state of pre-death... seriously. Anyone here have any fatigue type illnesses? I have been treated with various things, and have given up hope a few times. I have a "meet and greet" with another new doc tomorrow...
I often wonder if long term use of Nexium/Prevacid meds causes this? My doc SWEARS NOT. I am not so sure... SOMETHING is causing this.

When was the last time you had your blood drawn?

Good luck with the new doc. It's important you get answers soon!

I was VERY tired, and finally collapsed at work. I had pancytopenia, ALL my blood counts were down. It was secondary to an infection, but I do know what that feeling of utter and complete fatigue feels like, and it's no fun!

Pregnant? Anemia? Not sleeping well at night? Seasonal Affective Disorder? Dehydration? Not exercising?

All the above things make me feel really tired.

Has your thyroid been tested?

I would go for a blood test. Try and get in to see your GP if you can.

I just went 2 weeks ago, and was exhausted beyond belief. I went for blood tests to rule out Mono, and did. Now, they are checking my thyroid levels...

Hope you get better soon.:goodvibes

Yes. Thyroid is bad... don't have one anymore actually. BUT those labs come back "normal" (for what that is worth) and I've been on treatment for that since I was 20. I even tried uping my meds, to test it, and went way over hyper. :confused3

My friend was dealing with this. She was feeling very fatigued and dizzy. She thought she might be pregnant, turns out she has Epstien-Barr (sp?).

This is exactly how my DH describes his fatigue. He has an autoimmunie disorder (sarcoidosis) which has caused severe lung disease. sometimes he is so fatigued he could lay down on the floor right in the middle of WalMart. It comes over him like a seizure, almost and he HAS to lay down or he feels like he will die. The only treatment has been for him to take naps, sometimes 2-3 a day. When he's rested he's good to go and we never know when the fatigue will hit.

Keep seeking answers. It took us over 6 months to get a diagnosis for DH and unfortunately, it's something he has to learn to live with. Eventually some doctor will hit on the right treatment for you.

I have Chronic Fatigue Sydrome. I know what that type of fatigue is like. Fortunately I do not experience it all of the time. But if I overdo my activity it will hit like a ton of bricks. And it can take a month to get back to "normal".

When my reflux is not totally under control the acid will get into my lungs. That impairs my lung function and makes the fatigue worse.

Last fall I had a combo of extremely tiring 2 week vacation to Italy (but worth it), walking pneumonia, and a reaction to an antibiotic. I honestly felt like I was dying. Not really hurting or feeling sick - it just felt like my body was shutting down - that state of pre-death you mentioned.

Good luck.

MS fatigue could easily be described as violent. I've always called it a "total body giveout" - I can barely find the energy to breathe sometimes - no exaggeration. I could literally fall asleep standing up and it doesn't get better with sleep - no matter how much I get. If I'm in an MS fatigue "thing", I just have to wait for it to pass, sometimes it takes a long while.

Good luck at the doc.!:thumbsup2

I had crushing fatigue a few years ago. Couldn't stay awake more than an hour or two at a time. It turned out to be Depression. Before you say "No way!", be aware that that's sort of what I said when the doctor told me. Actually, my specific words were: "Depression?! I'm not depressed about anything except being tired all the time."

That happened to me about 15 years ago. I remember going to the doctor and saying "But I don't feel depressed, I just want to sleep all of the time."

It turned out that I had obstructive sleep apnea. CPAP didn't work for me (although I tried it faithfully for a year) so I had some major surgery to fix it.

The CFS came about a decade later.

Is diabetes a possibility? That can cause fatigue.
I'm glad you are seeing your Dr. about it.

I've SO had it with this. Yes, depression has been suggested and I thought the EXACT same thing! The only thing Im depressed about is being Freaking flat out tired, exhausted. I actually gave the anti dep meds a good try, tried a few different ones even... Im just not depressed. The meds made everything worse... plus a huge weight gain. (oh, that helps!) So, I been there/done that sort of. I saw my quack today for some scary side effects of a Power Awake med (provigil) My arms went sort of numb... and he put me back on Ritalin instead. Ritalin for fatigue for adults, and not ADHD. Weird.
I wont be seeing this guy again for a while as I need a new doc who will try. This guy has given up on me I think, and now I cant even get a phone call returned for over a week.
New doc tomorrow. Fingers crossed....

Thanks for the replies. It really helps. :)

I feel for ya!

I go back to my doctor next week... to talk about long term disability from work. I so do not want to go back to her. Last time I talked to her, she was so rude. The last time she states in a VERY snotty voice "Your not working *YET*? Do you EVER plan to go back to work??". Not in a wondering tone but a really negative tone :(

In 25 years of working, this is the only time I have ever been out ill. She is doing little helping me find out whats wrong.

I want a new doctor, but according to whoever runs the disability stuff said I have to have the original doctor fill out any and all paperwork. I can't go to a new doctor and have them do it.

I am having severe anxiety even thinking about this appt.

Mine often hits for no reason or no warning. I just all of a sudden fell drugged out. I fall asleep in a wink. It is terrible. I have very little energy. She refuses to treat me for depression or give me names/refer me to someone. It is terrible!
She gave me some drug used for people who work the night shift or what have you. It did nothing for me.

I'm not sure when you are tired, but if it's just in your home....make sure to have the CO levels checked. We nearly lost an entire family in our community because their chimney was plugged with a birds nest and not letting the CO out.

I was diagnosed with severe sleep apnea a few months ago & I pretty much experienced what you describe as violent fatigue -- several times a day (particularly in the late afternoon) I was so tired that it was almost like I was passing out all the time... if not stimulated, I felt like my eyes would roll right up in my head.

I just wanted to lie down anywhere -- last year at WDW I had recurring fantasies about lying down in the middle of the pathway and just waiting for paramedics to haul me away.

Anyway, here is what I am wondering: how long ago did this start happening? Did it happen gradually, or all of a sudden? Did you had any other health issues that happened around that time (flulike symptoms, a virus, headaches, whatever)? Have you ever felt this way before? Was there anything else in your life that happened around the time you first experienced symptoms (any difficult personal life events, major life changes, etc.)? What has your doc tested, specifically?
