I don't get these either!!!:confused3 I also don't get the Pook-a-looks or whatever they're called..LOL!!! I do think that they're really creepy...the vinyl ones!!!

I cast my lot with those who find them a bit creepy. I don't find anything appealing about them and can't imagine considering them a "collectable".:confused3 Junk--yes/ collectable--no:wizard:

I find it interesting to see how different artists all use the same form and create different things. I find some to be awesome. I find some to be weird looking (Usually the Urbans). I'm always fascinated by artists maybe since I have not a lick of artistic ability!

As for the price, the small ones are 9.95 which is equivalent to the price of many pins. Pins, now there are something that are overpriced.

I'm not going to say crap like "I don't get how people like this.." Many ppl say the same thing about adults liking Disney and folks get upset about that.

It is a collectible that doesn't appeal to everybody. I'm fine with that.

Wow - I'm not really surprised so many don't get it.

But still, when twice as many hate it (the last choice) as like it (the first two choices), you have to wonder if Disney blew it on this marketing campaign.

Discuss amongst yourselves.... popcorn::

I don't get the concept. I did buy one of the special ones offered for the Osborne Lights at DHS. It is cute enough, but I don't think I will be starting another collection. I still buy the Disney beanies when I find one I can't live without. I think my beanie purchases could have put my son through a year or more of college!

My DS7 just discovered these on our last trip. Gotta say I am liking them better than pins. First, it doesn't take an hour of debating over which one he's going to get, just pick a box and go! :thumbsup2 Secondly, when I find them lying on the floor it doesn't hurt so much to step on them! And given that the 3" are basically the same price as pins I have no complaints. We only have a few and no doubles so will have to see how it goes once we start getting dupes...

This is exactly what happened to us. I am vanilla about them, but my DD10 had a great time trying for the complete set of cutesters. We have a lot of duplicates. (She was spending her own $) I would like to trade them for the 3-4 in the set she still doesn't have, but I don't have the energy for eBay. I will admit, she hasn't done much with them since being home and away from the temptation/surprise of the sealed box. :)

At first, I did not like them and they made absolutely no sense. But the more I've seen them, and trust me, it seems that they are exploding around the parks since the 4 times I've been since December, I'm starting to come around. I actually bought one, and will now buy at least one maybe two per trip. They are great on my desk at work and I will continue to add to that. I never got into the pin trading, but $10 for that compared to the sometimes $12-15 that some pay for pins should elevate the cost issue of these things. It reminds me of being a kid buying a pack of baseball cards hoping for a certain card but finding something to like in every pack I bought even if I didn't get the one I wanted.

As for the 9" figure, I've bought one for both my DD's (1 & 4) and they love getting the characters to autograph them. The gold and silver pens we bought really does well on them and they are a cool keepsake for their bookshelve that they love to play with and hold.

Move me from the don't like to really enjoy side.

I see the gap is narrowing slightly. Its no longer 2:1 against, but still pretty strongly weighted towards those that don't care for this new collectible.

There's still time to vote.

I got 3 on my last trip. One clear, ended up with yellow. One Muppets, ended up with Bean Bunny. And one Cutsie, ended up with the red one with a leaf on its head. If I could know which one I was getting I might be more into them. I would love to get all of the Muppets, but i don't want to risk too many duplicates.

I am at WDW now and some of the stores at the parks and DTD have black cases with numbers that you can trade your vinylmation that you don't want for one behind the numbers (1-24) and if you don't like that one it can be traded in a clear case (1-3). It is a great idea. I brought our 4 duplicates from earlier trips and got 4 new ones.
This is a really great idea.:cool1:

Don't like them enough to buy a whole case just to get a few that I like, but there have been a few that I wished I could buy.

I was not into them at ALL in the beginning. When the Muppets set was released I was intrigued, but wasn't going to get sucked into it. Then when I saw the Cutesters, well....they had me. I even considered buying the whole case since DL is offering 20% off merchandise for premium passholders right now. Thankfully, I resisted that but I do have 5 of them! The very first one I bought was from Mickey's of Glendale at the D23 event and it was *the* one that turned me around (the owl)!! I was so happy! :lovestruc

You can see them here, they really are just too cute: http://disneyparks.disney.go.com/blog/2010/01/too-cute-sters/

:) I actually looked up a website the other night on Vinylmation. Not becasue I like then but to see what the hub bub was about. I might would get one or two if I could see what I was buying--I do like the Mickey shape.

I thought I would shed some light on those that don't get it. :)

Way before Vinylmation existed there were Vinyls. Vinyls are 3D ceramic objects that are painted by urban street artists and sold/collected for a loooot of money they can get very expensive. The most recognizable name in these Vinyls is Kid Robot. http://www.kidrobot.com/

There are Kid Robot stores in a lot of major cities, and now he dabbles in apparel which also go for a lot of money. Just like Vinylmation, the toys and apparel he makes are very exclusive, and thus making them very collectable (http://www.kidrobot.com/Toys/DesignerToys/Evirob18Inch.html)

Just like the rubber band bracelets that Disney is now coming out with, I think they found an opportunity to capitalize on several people: Those who know about vinyls and like Disney, those who like to collect things, people who like shiny pretty things, guests who like to trade and interact with CM, and people who just like the way they look.

Interesting background information. I didn't know that. Thanks!

ive got a couple now and i LOVE them! i bought two at halloween time - the jack skellington and the skeleton ones and they are really cool. :thumbsup2 hoping to buy a few more this year on my sept trip! :wizard:

I dont hate them but I dont get it either. My son asked for one a few times but I cant choose the one he wants. It is like putting a quarter in a toy machine and luck of the drawl but this is alot more than a quarter. I told him no that he could pick anything else. I dont want to deal with the disappointment he will feel when he gets one he doesnt want. I really dont get the whole you cant see what you get thing. It is frustrating as a parent and why I wont buy one for my son. Just my 2 cents worth.

A friend of ours really enjoys the Vinylmations and collect them. She wants us to pick up the DCL-exclusive ones for her on PCC 2.0. However, she also collects these Alice in Wonderland Cheshire Cat Vinylamations and those are really cute. They come in very nice designer boxes that match the cats. They have a Pirate one, a Goth one, a Mickey one, etc. I've never seen them before, but she says those are what first got her into collecting Vinylmation.

I didn't get them either but then a friend gave us the collection from Parks 1 and now we are hooked! But I am afraid they will be like pins and they will just keep pumping out more and more and you won't be able to keep up!
