... seems to be the style now with middle schoolers. This suprised me because every time I passed this store in the mall it looked like stuffy, country club attire for older people. Anyone's kids come home asking for VV?

It was big in here a year or two ago with middle schoolers. Not sure about now. My kids were never into the clothes.

It's so expensive!! Some of the preppy kids near us wear it. I looked online to get a few things for my daughters. Forget it!

I don't think it's anything special. Another think I just don't get.

I'm lucky in that both of my teens hate it. It is in style among the preppy sorts.

It's not really anything special but it is good quality. I often shop second hand and the vineyard vines things I come across are always in good condition. It holds up well.

I have never heard of it either. My kids would wear potato sacks if they had to, they aren't picky about labels.

It was really big at DS's private high school. So was the Southern Tide brand. Both brands, plus Ralph Lauren/Polo, are big at his university as well. UVA is pretty preppy.

I only buy Ralph Lauren/Polo at Mashalls or TX Maxx or when RL has an online sale. I only buy the VV stuff when they have the Whale of a Sale (an extra % off sale prices) at the end of summer and after Christmas. It brings a $98 button down shirt down to $35. I can afford $35.

We just had a Vineyard Vines store open in Pittsburgh. It's definitely gaining popularity as a brand, and it happens to be one of my personal favorite brands, right up there with Polo Ralph Lauren.

I have noticed a few more younger people (teenagers) wearing it, but there are also a lot of adults who like the brand. Most of them are the kind who buy Polo, Lacoste, etc.

I got a bit of a laugh from the OP's description of "stuffy country club attire for older people"...yes, some of the purchasers are the country club type, but it does have some traction among those who aren't members of any club. I wear Vineyard Vines a lot, and have set foot inside a country club once...to install a projector. The brand does seem to have a certain appeal to those who like to sail. <<Raises hand>>

The quality is good, definitely on par with Polo. All of the shirts I have are of high quality. They have some great pieces in their collection. Most recently, I bought a belt with American flags on it. I'm thinking of getting a few of the ties now that we have a store and I don't have to either hunt the clothes down at Nordstrom or pay shipping for online orders!

In terms of price, be sure to look at their website or subscribe to their emails if you want to save some money. If you wait until things go on sale, you can get pretty good deals and save over half the price. Since preppy clothing never goes out of style, it's always a safe bet. (Seriously, Macy's puts all the summer Ralph Lauren shirts on sale in the fall, then brings the same ones out again six months later...and they still look every bit as good in terms of being current).

If you want any incentive to buy directly from the store or website, you get a FREE whale sticker with every purchase!!

Last year, I actually say some Vineyard Vines shirts at Fittings and Fairings, the shop at Yacht Club at WDW. (I was tempted but got a nice Nike golf shirt instead...funny since I don't even golf...I just liked the shirt!)

It's interesting how brands appeal to different ages across the country/world. In this region, Vineyard Vines is popular with college students and 20-somethings. It is an expensive brand, but the items are well made and classic. Sales definitely help make it more affordable.

Yes, it's pretty popular in my area with both tweens, teens, and adults. The same goes for Lilly Pulitzer and similar preppy-style clothing. (We're northwest of Boston). There's a VV warehouse sale in our area a few times a year and it gets wild with people waiting hours in line even before the store opens.

I've found some cute things for my girls, but I'll only get them second-hand (and thankfully, since it's popular here, it can be found relatively easy at second hand/consignment stores).

My high school students like it - mostly the freshmen and sophomores. I don't have kiddos but it looks pricey! ;)

FWIW, I'm in South Florida.

My 16-year old just ordered a couple things online, but he was given a $100 GC for his birthday. Whether or not he would buy clothes from there otherwise, I guess we'll see.

Kinda pricey. I've bought a couple things for my young adult kids, but only on sale. I do see people wearing the clothes around here, though I don't know if that include Middle Schoolers.

Really popular in middle school around here.
