VILLIANS LAND

My ds (4) is all about villains. When I told him they’re building a villains land he was super excited. I’m sure there are other kids that will be just as excited
Both my kids are beyond excited for villains land! The Evil queen was my DD (5) favorite character meet on our december trip this year. and my DS (9) says that MK is too princessy for him lol so hes stoked about both cars and villains !

I hope the new Cars Land includes a playspace for the kids in addition to the two rides. I hate to see the free play areas go away completely, especially for the very little kids who can't ride much.

And a post somewhere earlier in this thread reminded me that the backstory to BTMRR involves a haunted, runaway mine train. So wouldn't take much tweaking to link it thematically to Villains Land.

Finally!!! I just hope they don't pare it back, Disney has a habit of rolling out grand plans only to scale it way back when they actually build it, but still super stoked to see what they do! Also excited for the cars themed area that's coming!
I am going to withhold too much excitement until I hear more about the dining and attractions. The shopping does absolutely nothing for me. I am happy for the expansion but the type of attractions, dining, etc. will be the real gauge for me.

This is absolutely by design, not an accident. In a world where parents actually supervised their kids instead of outsourcing it to CMs, we'd probably still have them. Unfortunately we live in a world where people don't do that, and then blame CMs when things happen.
I guess it’s an American thing?
In Australia we like to let our kids play without being hovered over

The little mermaid play zone at Tokyo is amazing I just wish the US parks would have more free play spaces and less lines for kids

I don't really blame the pandemic at all for how long it took. Universal was working on Velocicoaster at the same time. In fact, they started later and it was still open almost 2 years before Tron. Were they not dealing with the same pandemic as Disney?
Disney builds are very much driven by their P&L entries. Sadly they seem to like to expense over years.

My only hope here is that EPIC is bringing some heat. Not only is the Classic Monster land and Harry Potter bringing excitement but they've got the kids too with Mario Kart and Super Nintendo, How to Train Your Dragon and more.

Yes.

We live in a highly litigious society. Too many parents do not supervise their children on other people's property, they get hurt and then they sue the property owners. Disney has deep pockets and is constantly dealing with lawsuits from guests who created their own problem. The best option for businesses is not have anything available to entice parents to leave their children unattended. And sadly we live in a place where there are too many people with bad intentions. I would never allow my children out of my sight in public places, only my yard. In fact we have a 6-8 ft fence all the way around our property to keep my kids and dogs in, and others out.

Disney has playgrounds at their hotels, a few place spaces in parks but parents are always expected to supervise them.

Sorry to be picky but I'm a recovering bean counter. Building a new attraction is not an expense. It is a capital addition, which then gets depreciated over its expected life.

Perhaps you are thinking about the cash outlay?

All of this! Seems like there are mostly 2 types of parents. The helicopter parents who hover, and the ones who don't wanna parent at all, then blame everyone else when their kid gets hurt or does something wrong. There is a 3rd type, who likes to have "free range" kids but we are too afraid of the nosey nancy's who will freak out if they think a child is not being watched properly, even tho they are.

Also, it just annoys me that people blame covid for how long it took to build Tron when other parks managed to get things done just fine.

So, does anyone think the hype for Villain's Land will mean more Villain events in the time until it opens? I loved 2019 Villain's After Hours. While I'm crazy excited for the land to open, it would be great to see more events like that on the schedule.

Add that TRON was already made!!! They built two when they did Shanghai and put in a warehouse. They could not build it anywhere until the agree upon date, 2021 I believe. So they took their sweet time, charging bits and pieces to each fiscal year.

AND COVID WAS NOT A REASON ~ construction was not impacted by COVID "rules". It actually was the best time for them to do lots of updates, painting etc. They chose to take the year to save money, even though it was money they were going to have to spend. Purely a financial P&L decision. Oh and us stockholders got NO DIVIDENDS for what 3 years.

< start sarcasm >
Y'all need to remember how much time and effort they put into that 100th anniversary/birthday whatever. They put up new ribbons on the castle and got new costumes for the characters. I mean sure, Universal built VelociCoaster, but did they decorate???

I'm with you. A lot of the Epcot plans were cut back or cancelled. And it's almost guaranteed there's going to be a leadership change in the midst of all this. Who knows how much desire they will have to bring it down to the finish line after Cars and Tropical Americas. I'll keep the emotions in check until there's more than some vague concept art.
Agree, but if Josh is that new leader....

Remember the viking ship play area in Norway? I know someone who's son broke his arm playing on it. The mom told the Disney people that it was his own fault for horsing around but it was obvious they thought that she might sue (Disney whisked them off to have the arm set, paid for the setting, and followed up afterwards). The viking ship disappeared not long after that.

According to Mickey views which has an accompanying video, this was an indoor tea cup ride.
No great loss.
Oh too bad , I was thinking something more Peter Pan like you know, suspended from the top, kind of picking up on the umbrella vibes would’ve been cool.

Mary Poppins would be so cool
"Unreleased Concept Art" obtained by W D W Magic. Looks like a good call to cancel, I'd rather the funds go towards something more original and substantial.
