Have been looking at these villas and they look gorgeous as does the whole resort. Problem is they want $950 a night for when we want to go in February!!!!!!! How hysterical is that?

Is there something I'm missing on staying there? Do people really pay that much?

Any tips are greatly appreciated!!

Thanks!!

How many bedrooms? I know the 4 bedroom grand villas have 4 masterbedrooms with their own baths. If 4 couples are splitting the cost, then maybe some people would pay that much to stay there.

That was actually for a 2 bedroom! I could actually see it for a 4 bedroom villas with 4 master bedrooms. But this was a regular 2 bedroom.

I just find it hard to believe that they are actually filling these rooms at those prices. In the past, I could see companies springing for it for their sale rep rewards trips or conventions, but nowadays it just seems very steep.

Anyone else know how to stay there for less?

Thanks!

Hi Heather!!
Are you sure you don't want to rent DVC points and stay onsite next year? That's what we decided to do. Certainly would be alot cheaper than $950 per night! LOL

I've never seen them close to that rate. My brother and I got a two bedroom villa with a golf package for $300 a night last summer. They do host a lot of golf tournaments which would send up occupancy and thus the rates, perhaps thats the case here...

Hi Jenn! Where are you guys going to be staying? That is an idea that I have looked into. I was just playing around with the rates at Grand Cypress since I've heard how nice it is.

Problem for us with renting points is that we can't do a studio with 5 and would need a 1 bedroom. The DVC points for that are very high especially since we go for about 11-12 nights. I've been lucky enough to never have had to pay more than like $130 a night with tax. So we're talking about $1500.....DVC would cost me about double that...or more I would think depending on the resort. But...if you can figure out how I could do it, that would be awesome! It's that 3rd kid...puts us over the edge...in more ways than one!! LOL!

Other thing is that we don't want to have to change resorts in order to save on those weekend points.

My DH stayed there for a conference and it was no where near that rate. I suspect because you are so far out. Another thing, they participate in the AMEX platinum program which is great. The benefits include an upgrade if available ( he was upgraded from a club suite to 1 b/r) breakfast for 2 daily 1
special amenity (I think his was a spa treatment) and guaranteed 4pm checkout.

If you have that card, it would certainly behoove you to use it.

you are right looked at AKV - standard 1-bedroom - 25 points so at least $250

value 2-bedroom is 29 points so at least $290.

the value 1-bedroom is only for 4 people. on early Feb 1-15 - later is spring break and much more expensive.

you might consider Wyndham Bonnett Creek - it rents for about half of what disney does. but you need to prove your own transportation from the airport - but since you generally stay offsite - no a problem.

Thanks spicecat! We have actually stayed at Bonnet Creek twice and think it is great. Were just there in a 2 bedroom for this past Feb. break. Lucky enough to have paid $120 a night for a 2 bedroom including the taxes.

Unfortunately, Disney can't come close to that and I just can't justify spending that much more. Also love trying new places out to keep things fresh each year and that's why the Villas at Grand Cypress got my attention.

Maybe I'll keep checking it as we get closer. Also..thanks to the previous poster about the AMEX tip. Will look into that as well.

then might consider Hilton Grand vacation club - especially if saying a week.

you can rent from owners there too.

www.tug2.net

also these Marriott
Marriott's Cypress Harbour
Marriott's Grande VIsta
Marriott's Harbour Lake (was Horizons)

now these are even closer to WDW -but at one time had problems - now it seems like the only big problem is getting back and forth to the main building
Marriott's Imperial Palms
Marriott's Sabal Palms
Marriott's Royal Palms

HI
Do you have your dates yet??? We booked our flights already we'll be going February 10-20. You definitely wouldn't be able to do a DVC resort for $130 per night even with renting points. Our 10 nights are costing $1850 and thats for AKL 8 nights Savannah view studio then our last 2 nights in a Concierge studio. Let me know your dates and I'll see what I can configure. Unless you've already done that.
Since you've had such great savings in the past maybe it's time for a splurge!
I'd love to help you figure out a way to stay onsite!

I booked that resort thru Hotelkingdom.com and it was cheaper, but that was a few years ago.

Hey Everyone: Thanks for all the advice!

Jenn - Our dates are almost identical (as usual)! We are hoping to fly out the evening of the 9th to the 20th. I saw your post about you booking your air...that's awesome!!! We haven't booked yet, mostly because I'm a spoiled brat and refuse to fly anything other than nonstops. So I'm waiting for JetBlue, Airtran, and Southwest to release flights. Last time we flew Airtran and booked that in May. So hopefully, they'll have a decent price when they release.

As far as onsite, it just seems to make more sense to stay offsite for 5 of us. We could always stay at the All Star Suites, but the places we've stayed at are far nicer for less money. Since we like to travel ....a lot...I just can't justify paying $3000 for a Disney hotel. I can use that money for some other trip. Make sense?

SpiceyCat - thanks for all those suggestions. We have stayed at a couple of them over the years and I am actually on the hunt for staying at one of them again next year. I could rent from the same owner at Bonnet Creek which we may do, and I've been in touch with owners at HGVC and Marriott's Grande Vista.

I'm thinking I may like to stay at Grande Vista again. We've been there twice and loved it, so that's my next move. A couple owners there have told me to wait a few months and they would be able to rent for less money. Has to do with the inventory available.

Just thought that if I could get a decent rate at Grand Cypress, we may try it. I'll keep checking though.

Thanks to all of you! Really appreciate the advice!

Heather
