We are travelling to WDW the end of Jan 06 with TCD and staying in one of their standard villas.
In their brochure it says that not all homes have safes.
What do you all do with your valuables. Do these villas get broken into very often. I'm a little worried now as I wouldn't want to carry all our cash with us around the parks, or all of our credit cards, travellers cheques etc.

Michelle, this is a very good question.
None of the villas we have stayed at so far have a safe, although funnily enough the one we booked for next August has.

To be honest, we have generally carried all our cash etc with us whenever we go out.
I normally put the flight tickets/passports in one of our hard suitcases that has a combination lock on.
I suppose in theory I could put money in there too but never have.
We have never had any problems and the villas are always very secure.

I know what you mean though, it is not an ideal situation to be in.

i always carry all of our money and credit cards with us, even though we always stay onsite and have a safe in the room..

the only thing i leave in the room are the tickets and 3 passports (i carry my passport with me for ID in addition to my drivers license)...

I guess there's probably no more crime than anywhere else. Where I live I have never taken my keys out of the ignition of my car, it's parked in my drive if any one wants to drive it off :rotfl2:

It would be a good idea to have safes in the villa, I am a total airhead and lose purses, bags all the time. I get distracted, usually by children then leave things so I like to take only whats necassary with me and leave the rest behind.

Oh well we will manage somehow.

I'm still excited...it's getting closer. :Pinkbounc  :cheer2: :bounce:

Years ago when we stayed in hotels I used to leave our money etc in the safe.

To be honest now though I don't think I would do that anyway and would probably just take it with me.

Like Johnny non of the villas we have stayed in have safes which I thought was strange. I would have liked to have left some travellers cheques in a safe incase of the worst case scenario and we got something on us stollen. this year we planked some TC .

Just about to contradict myself :rotfl: now that I think about it the Villas of Sommerset def. had safes.

Personally i always left my travellers cheques in the suitcase - locked though! And just carried any cash and cards with me. However i kept the serial numbers of the travellers cheques on me incase anything did happen and that way i could get them replaced. Depending on your insurance they should replace these within 48hours.

It is up to the owners whether they provide safes or not if there isn't one find an obscure place in the villa for your things -there are usually one or two odd little places in each home but I won't tell you where they are on an open forum as you never know who reads it . :)

Your valuables will just as safe in the villa as burglaries are few and far between as there is nearly always people around on the community coming and going.
Just be as vigilant as you would be at home with your valuables and make copies of any important documents like driving licences and passport and insurance documents if you want to .And above all don't worry.

:) I've thought of that but when you think of a good hiding place then you wonder if someone else might think of that and it's obvious :confused3

There are alot of local banks that offer safety deposit boxes for a very small charge, these are a very good idea and we will be using the service at Christmas when we go out to the villa.

Thats an idea, I have got an American express Travellers cheque card, DS's & DD's have £200 each id USD's and we (DW & DH) have £200 in USD's. So nothig significant to "hide" just spare credit card, passports, boarding passes and things that would be dreadful if we lost!!
I think I'm still going to go with finding a hiding place.
Thanks for all your thoughts :)

We usually just find somewhere to hide it all.You can usually find somewhere to hide it all away.

Though this year we had a safe,so safe infact that we couldn't even get into it. It had all our money,tc's and everything in it.

HA HA HA - that IS safe , Hi by the way I am a couple of miles up the road from you (rainy) Thornton Cleveleys. :)

Request one when booking a villa. They may have homes with and without. Also you may ask if the owner would be willing to purchase one. We own a villa and our first guests were from Europe and requested one for there passports in particular. We were glad to offer them one and now all our guests have the use. It is an item that lasts forever and of minimal cost. All you can do is try.
