viewing savannah

can you view the savannah from other spots in the resort other than your room? The lobby? the restaraunts?

There's a room with comfortable chairs and windows and a balcony for viewing. We didn't have a savannah room and went to this room often to see the animals. Also, as you walk around the resort outside there are CM from different countries who talk about the animals that you can see along the walkway.

PS. I think there's another area, and that there are rocking chairs...it's like a porch. It's been a long time since I've been there. I can't wait to go again, soon!

They have more then one area with rocking chairs (there were two on the level where we stayed) and they are all nice. You can walk right out back of the gorgeous lobby area and see the animals any time you want. In the evening, there is a fire pit with rocking chairs around it. Sometimes you might find a CM handing out Night Vision Goggles to see the animals.

In addition to what has already been mentioned, if you walk down the "trails" (hallways) inside AKL there are several large viewing windows along the way that look out over the savannahs. We've even walked out onto the fire exit at the end of some of the trails to see the animals hanging out at the back of the savannahs.

We stayed in a Savannah room last year and let me tell you, what a hike! I think it took us about 10 minutes to walk from the lobby to our room. We did get to see some great animals along the walkway.

I think next time, I'd get a room closer to the resort action and then hang out in the areas where you can see animals.

One interesting note ... We had to catch ME at 4am and it was fascinating seeing so many animals up and about. Most were eating, but they were definitely moving around. Must be early birds!

Our best room ever at AKL was a 2nd floor room most of the way out along the Kudu trail, facing the Arusha savannah. The animals move in close to Arusha rock at feeding times but the rest of the time they often stay towards the back of the savannah. Being further out from Arusha Rock, we had fantastic animal viewing all the time. Yes it was a long walk from the lobby but we thought the view was well worth it!

There was a lovely little bench right outside my pool-view room from which I could view the savannah last year (actually it was on the fifth floor, so I'd love to get that same room, since it's now DVC). I spent a good amount of time there.
