Is it my imagination, or are more and more people getting a bit too concerned about making view requests? It just seems to me that asking for very specific views is going to only make you very disappointed, and maybe stressed out at check-in time when nothing is available with your preferred view. Perhaps that is what the former cast member was talking about with DVC resort check-in being the least popular place to work. I guess I really can't see getting bent out of shape over a view, when we will be back many times between now and 2042!

I'm also wondering if it is the renters who are most concerned about their one time view.

I agree with you that we're seeing more posts regarding views, I think especially at BCV when there's some sort of EPCOT fireworks view that's not "available" anymore.

Also, I think you're right that some of these posts have been from renters who want a great view.

I think these very specific requests are going to start hurting all of us in the future, if they haven't already. It might actually be one of the factors in the resorts switching to "room ready" check in. JMHO.

I've noticed it to....and it does seem to be a lot of renters. I hope their won't be a lot of disappointment.

I guess different things are important to different people on vacation, but I generally don't spend anywhere near enough time in the room to make the "view" issse a dealbreaker. While I can certainly appreciate a beautiful view (and we have had some in our many trips to WDW), I also enjoy a view that might not be as aesthetically pleasing, but is still interesting.

I can think back to when we stayed at the WL (hotel, not villas). We had a view of the smokehouse in the back. We also got the room for a phenomenally cheap rpice for that resort. OK, so the smokehouse isn't "beautiful"...it was a very interesting vie. It was interesting to watch what they did at the smokehouse. My DH, who enojys cooking, actually probably spent the most time on the balcony on that trip, because he was so interested in watching the activity.

We also had a view once at the BWV that perhaps some wouldn't have care for...it was a view of the front entrance. I found it kind of intersting to see the comings and goings of the guests, there was a wedding that pulled up, and at night, all the lights around the entrance were quite lovely.

I guess my point is, I think if folks get too caught up in the view, and the perfect vacation, they are going to be disappointed.

Over the years, we have spent more time in the resort. If we have 7 nights booked at OKW (or wherever), we may spend 2 of those days just lounging around the pool or spending some time shopping at DD/outlet malls or playing mini golf etc and then return to our room. If we were going back to a hotel room it would be different, but when you have a 2 bedroom villa it's actually nice to spend some time just relaxing---at least for us. I particularily like a nice view first thing in the morning as I like to sit out on the patio/balcony. We've been known to have dinner out on the balcony at OKW.
I never ask for a specific building or even location with DVC. All I really request is NS and "water view". I don't see what the issue is. I've been an owner at Vistana since '94 and they always seem happy to oblige my requests for a water view there. As an owner, I don't know why I shouldn't have this option ? I guess I'm in the minority. :confused3
But on a side note, if I didn't get a water view, I wouldn't start complaining or anything. It's just a preference of mine.

I requested a quiet pool view once at POR and found it was not worth the extra 10 or 20 dollars Iwas charged for it. Did not ask for a view when I stayed at BC, WL, AKL and POLY. Had pool views at last 3 mentioned and a nice view of the boardwalk at BC. This is something I found myself not to be to concerned about for the amount of time I spend at the room. Now I just book it, and whatever room I am placed in is just fine with me. With 50 or 60 more trips (I hope) left in my lifetime a view of the woods would be nice evry now and then.

Yes, there are a lot of renters asking about getting the "best view". And we (myself NOT included) seem to be happy to offer our suggestions as to what would be the "best view" for this renter. Not to pick on the renters, but the owners usually are familiar with their resort and the others, so they don't ask as frequently.

I have yet to answer a thread that asked that question. I love it when someone asks about the best room at VWL and they get the answer-"ask for close to the elevators and facing the lake/pool area". There are so few rooms that fit that description. And by always telling people to do that, it makes it more difficult for someone like me, who booked my room at 11 months. AAARRGGGGHHHHH :badpc:

A nice view is very important to me. A HC room (getting one) is not that big of a deal to me. How about those of you who do not care about a view offer that info when you check in and I will be willing to take a HC room. Even a smoking room (if it was properly cleaned first)

Your requests are very general and good ones. I was specifically talking about folks getting specific room numbers of units that someone else thought had a spectacular view of this or that. In general, each resort has somewhat general view options. Even BWV with its Boardwalk view, still has some general view options that are true for the resort as a whole. I guess if you know what the general views are at a resort, the specific room shouldn't be so much of a concern. My concern about this is that the folks who have some specific requests for views might also be the ones who are doing the loud complaining at check-in and thus giving all of us a bad name.

Think you are right Diane, it seems the forum is full of threads asking about 'which room or which view'. We request no smoking when we book and ask about distance to the elevator when we check in. Think we have generally been fortunate in getting the unit we want.

The thing about those "view request" threads, is that the renters want the "best room" possible, but what they don't understand is that the "best room" for one person might be the "worst room" for another! It is all based on individual opinion, and should be taken with a grain of salt. I think the only requests that make sense are smoking preference, handicapped preference or maybe floor preference wouldn't even be too specific either. Beyond that...take your chances on the run of the house!

Disney Doll, we had the "smokehouse view" as well, and I was pleasantly surprised to be able to see some fireworks over the trees in that direction. We thought it was a better view than in the courtyard high up where we couldn't see over the balcony, so we really didn't have a view.

I would like the "smokehouse view", since I love smoked meat.

We take our chance on what room we get. We have never had anything we couldn't get by with either. If view or location are that important to you, maybe a timeshare isn't the way to go. I don't get on this board very much, but I see a lot of people looking for the best room too. I would be more concerned if there was a worst room than a best room.

Haven't seen you around for awhile, Geezer! I just hope the specific requests don't lead to complainers who in turn make it uneasy for the cast members, so they take more flexibilit away. We used to always request non-smoking and South Point area. I quit puting in an request except non-smoking awhile back. We have often gotten the older buildings since then, so if I need a seperate door to the bathroom, I would have to add that request too. I just don't see any point it getting more specific than that.

As one would expect, DVC uses the "one best" room to hype the resort in their sales pitch (i.e. the Epcot ball for BCV and the fireworks view for SSR). This also leads to dissapointment when you don't get that one room depicted, and through the course of ownership you may never get that room. DVC should use a variety of views in their advertising. Personally, I like the woods view at BCV, and there are many rooms with that view.

I haven't found many bad views at OKW yet either. We had first floor of building 29 awhile back, and that one is pretty hemmed in with foliage, but it wasn't bad, just different.

I personally don't know what the big deal about the view is. I am a DVC owner at SSR and I'm just so gosh darn happy to be any place in DW that the view doesn't really matter to us. I think the complainers need to be reminded that they are only requests and all cannot be met. Just enjoy being in DW and forget the view
;)

Only one time have we been unhappy enough in a room to request a different room. We got put in a one-bedroom unit at BWV, overlooking the 'old DVC sales house' and the canal...straight at S/D. None of this would have been an issue except for the bedroom. We couldn't have opened the drapes in there since our unit was at the bottom left hand corner of the U so to speak. Our bedroom didn't have a balcony (not an issue) but the window looked directly onto the balcony of the first room on the left side of that U!!! We could read the paper that the man on the balcony was reading!!! So, we asked to be changed to a room where we could look out the bedroom window!!

Have I been thrilled with all my rooms? Of course not, but not to the point of complaining or asking to be changed. I request non-smoking, due to dd's asthma issues but that's it. I just can't see making a ton of requests and then having a hissy fit when none get met. I, also, think some people have gotten a little carried away. When you read those threads where someone asks what room number should they request, you just know they're doomed to fail!!

I had to laugh when I read the post re:the Smokehouse at WL. We had a standard view -(smokehouse view) on our first trip to WL in 1995. We still talk about that as my husband really enjoyed the comings and goings. He'd wave to the cast members etc. I can honestly say we have never had a horrible view in the 20+ times we have been to WDW, we've had some great views but have never been disappointed.
