I thought you were allowed to video tape but only without external lights and only thru an eyelens ( the ones with sidescreens are very distracting). Maybe Barb knows for sure?
Taking our 3rd Disney cruise in March 04 but have never brought my videocamera to the shows.
They ask that you do not do so as the lights/flash may distract the performers, however, that last 4 years that we've gone, people do take flash photos and video tape the shows no one has ever asked them to stop.
I think it would be great to have a tape of all the shows--Disney should consider selling one. On the Aug 2 cruise I saw a cast member ask several guests to stop taping during a show. Last time we were at WDW they stopped a ride and said it would restart when photographers put cameras away---can't remember which one. Beth
Actually, I was asked (told??) to stop taping during a show, and I was not using any external lighting. I got the impression it was for copyright reasons, and had nothing to do with being a disturbance...
I don't think that the performers would be all that aware... Using the little light on the camera is not going to help illuminate the stage anyhow.... Just the guests sitting right in front of the camera.
I can tell you this. If the person in front of me sits there thru the whole performance holding his Cam up in front of my face blocking my view, I will certainly be very aware.
I wonder how the heck can anyone enjoy the perfomance if they are sitting there looking thru a little viewer, messing with their camera the whole time?
What, do people actually think they are going to walk away with a professional quality Disney video production? Sit back and enjoy the real thing! Take home the memories!!!
I hope the CM's are enforcing the rules on our sailing.
Sorry for the negative post... Guess today is my 'venting' day!!!
In the early days of DCL, they did not make an announcement about videotaping being forbidden (hubby actually has the three original shows on tape...he taped them from the back of the theater so he wouldn't disturb anyone). But now they announce that videotaping is forbidden, and sometimes they enforce it & sometimes not. There doesn't seem to be any rhyme or reason to the enforcement. They usually don't ask you to stop if you take a photo without a flash (they come out surprisingly good), although they did force hubby to stop once even without a flash.
