Okay, I know this is kind of off-topic and probably will get moved, but I'm going to ask it anyway. Lately, I've really gotten into taking videos with my new iPhone 4 and have started uploading a few to YouTube (see my link below). A question - when walking around the parks, what is the etiquette as far as taking videos and posting to YouTube? I've got several videos where I did kind of "a walk around Epcot", etc. and would love to post them to YouTube, but is it okay to do this when other people appear in the video who you don't know? It's kind of hard to take videos without having perfect strangers appear in them. Also, I assume it's illegal to include any kind of music that is Disney related; is that correct? I'd love to post some videos, but am just paranoid about copyrights and things like that.

I believe the general legal principle is that there is no reasonable expectation of privacy in a public place. Of course, that doesn't mean that someone wouldn't object.

Every time we've been in recent years we've almost been run over by someone with a video camera who was watching the viewfinder and not where they were going. There is an enormous amount of videotaping going on at WDW...and a lot of it is just people walking with their cameras photographing nothing in particular but the walk itself.

With the music, I think it would depend on what music you are talking about. If you took copyrighted Disney soundtracks or songs and added them to your video, yeah I think that would be objectionable. If the video just picked up ambient music from a show, parade, etc, I'd say no problem.

However, You Tube may have much more stringent regs about what they allow to be posted.

if people hapen to be in your video (or photos) and they are not the intended subject matter or focus of the video, then you are perfectly okay to use the footage. If the 'passers by' are the actual focus, and in fact it is them that you video, then you should have a signed clearance form. But it sounds like you just have people in your footage background, so no problem there

With regards to your music in your video. Youtube do tend to allow videos with copyrighted music in them, but they will generally not allow them to be made availalable to be viewed through mobile devices (for some reason?). They sometimes also work out the track used using some technical magic, and post a link to were that track can be purchased.

They don't allow actual completed and original music videos to be posted (as in pirated or copied from MTV or the like) but if you upload your own disney vacation video, and put a disney song (or any song) behind it, then disney world certainily are not gonna mind (you are promoting them for FREE), and youtube will allow it too. go for it.

What they will not allow is something that you are making a commercial gain from, or is offensive, etc. But a personal video, with a disney or any song over the top is usually fine.

If it isn't, then the worse that could possibly happen is youtube may turn your audio off, and you will then be able to either leave it on youtube without sound or 'swap' the audio track for something else. This only seems to happen in extreme cases though.

Check out my you tube video here - it uses a Queen track! http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=shcmwnYQQDM
