Video editing

Hi
I'm after some help with video editing software. I bought myself a nice new Sony DCR-TRV 19E camcorder ready for my hols to Orlando in July/August. Been practicing editing and find the supplied software really limited and complicated. Can anyone recommend any reasonably priced software which will help me and produce good quality products.

Hi Mandy

We use Pinnacle Systems 9 which is relatively easy and you can do some great effects. We then burn the finished movie onto a dvd.

Thanks Fiona I will have a look at that next time I'm out shopping. I want to burn the finished video on to DVD as well so it sounds ideal.

Hi Mandy,
Like you have a Sony digital camcorder and not too impressed with the editing software. Used a programme called 'Roxio', v good although not sure how expensive it is (on my mother's pc!)

I have Adobe Premiere - very good, but not the easiest software to get results from.

For quick results, Dazzle DV is okay - I have seen it bundled with a DV card for less than £50.

However, I second FiFi's suggestion. Recently used Pinnacle Studio (8?) - taught someone the basics of video editting. Excellent product. So easy to use.

Burning to DVD is not as simple as you may think due to different formats and compatibility issues. I use the software bundled with Adobe Premiere - although the basic Roxio and Nero CD burning software produce VideoCDs which play fine in many domestic DVD players. I have found using CDRW media rather than CDR to be more reliable.

Video editting is surprisingly addictive - you will find yourself buying bigger hard drives, more memory and a better PC befoe you know it!
