I am going to be taking my DVD Camcorder/Video Camera to Disney for the first time... Will i have to take it out and turn it on to go through aiport security? Does it go through the xray machine??

I routinely put all my electronics (cell phones, CD players, DVD players, cameras, video cameras) all in the same large zip-loc bag. It's clear, so the agents can see what's in there. I take it out of my carryon bag, and send it through in one of the plastic bins on it's own. Then, back into the carryon at the end of the conveyor belt. When we get to the gate, and sit down, I can sort all the electronics to the appropriate people!

There is no reason to request hand inspection of the camera and you aren't likely to be asked to turn it on. Tapes are safe to send through also. Computers have to go through and they are never hurt.

Always keep film in a clear ziploc and ask for hand inspection though.

I agree. We had no trouble with our video camera and didn't have to turn it on at security. You shouldn't either.

we put everything thru the x ray machine. i have no problems with my camcorder, camera, cell phone, dvd player, etc... if you have the dvd camcorder be carful with it on rides, i guess with all the movement on the rides something must have happened, where my dh would have to plug it in to fix a disc error. that never happened to use before or after we left disney. it was very weird. oh, and that was not the video camera we took on the plane it was our new one!

I also kept everything in my carryon bag. I had a camcorder, digital camera, and Nintendo DS in there. They never asked me to turn any of it on. I think that the TSA folks are used to seeing certain devices through the x-ray. They will only ask if what they see doesn't fit the mold of what they expect.

I think the TSA rule is that camcorders that use tapes have to be in their own bin or in the same bin as a laptop from my past experience this past Sept. Other than that there was no need for them to turn the things on.

I just left my SLR and it's attachments in my camera backpack.
