Video: "Calving" Alaskian Glaciers Not Always Fun !

I saw that on the news this morning.
Do we know what cruise line these people are with?

Aren't Pete and Walter up there right now? I thought of them right away when I heard about it on Good Morning America.

That was a spectacular sight. I think they were fortunate that only one person seems to have been injured. (But what a story she will have to tell!)

The video was uploaded on August 5, so Pete and Walter weren't anywhere nearby at the time. :)

And that poor woman who was injured by the flying ice- just unimaginable!!!

That is an amazing site but omg I hope that lady is okay!!!

Wow! That's amazing. I've never seen anything like that! I hope the woman who broke her leg is OK. *That* is a story to tell your grandchildren!

Sayhello

It's amazing to me that a piece of flying ice from so far away could hit her with such force that it broke her leg !

Reminds me of a bumper sticker I once saw:

Nature Bats Last

yes, that's what's so amazing....and since it's falling down, it's really surprising to me that it would be thrown forward at that speed..

you can see the chunk that hits her....i had to watch it a second time to notice it....it comes with amazing speed...

^ Yes.

The ultimate case of being in "the wrong place at the wrong time".

I mean, if she had just been standing a couple of feet to the left or right, she would have been spared.

It would be hard not to take that personally. :crutches:

I have been on that tour, actually I go once a year. I think that is an Allen Marine boat but I could be wrong. This didn't even make the local news! :confused3 These smaller boats can get a lot closer then the big cruise ships. This is one of the tours that only locals or independent travelers can do because it is a 12 hour cruise from Juneau so no cruise ship people could have been on board.

I few years ago I was on one of these tours when the glacier calved from under the water line, so a huge house sized piece of bright blue ice popped up like a float that hand been held under water. :scared1: We where far enough back that it was only mildly scary and the color was amazing.
