Airlines don't ask the authorities to board a plane for something trivial. Post 9/11 aircraft protocol is strict. If a member of the flight crew says jump, you jump! Talking back to or disobeying a flight crew member is now grounds for removal from the aircraft. Some passengers don't get it. Airlines are always tight lipped about these incidents, so that part is nothing new.

I guess it just wouldn't be right for them to ride the bus to the mission and do a little charity work over the holiday.

Well, in all fairness, they have every right to live the lifestyle they choose. As long as the parishoners and people who make donations to them don't mind, who are we to say anything. I will say this though, if they don't like Airline rules they can always charter their own jet next time.

Thank you for providing the link. I did read the article. It is my opinion, however, that it is a case of too little, too late.

I live in Houston. I was here and know firsthand what was going on. I know about people in parking lots with nowhere to go, no food, no diapers. Lakewood did not respond in a timely fashion. There was so much more they could have done.

IMHO, Joel Osteen is more of a motivational speaker than a preacher. I think he has some good positive things to say but, an this is just my opinion, I hardly think of him as a preacher. I am sure between the church and the books sales of his best selling book, he's living a really good life. And as someone else said, more power to him. And he may give away a lot of $$ to the needy around the world. God knows there is a lot of need in this world.

Sorry to pick, but this is just wrong. They have the right to take a family vacation just like anyone else. While I agree that a first-class flight to Vail is a bit overboard, many of my own parishioners may think its extravagant when DW and I load up the sedan and drive to WDW. That's what we do for our family vacations. We do mission work at other times as well. Regarding timing of vacations, I personally would not take such a vacation like that over Christmas, but my circumstances are a bit different from Osteen's.

The remark about "riding the bus to the mission" sounds more than a little condescending.

We were on a recent flight where a man started in on the FAs as soon as he stepped on the plane. He was rude and offensive; when he got to his seat he was swearing and still on the FA. She wanted him removed, someone came on board and there was a big conference with the pilot about it, but he was not removed. We were sitting in the first row, so heard a lot of it. I guess he was a pain the whole flight--according to people around him. His poor wife was so embarassed, covering her head, etc. She couldn't calm him down at all.

Victoria Osteen's comments don't jive with those from the lady seated behind her:

I believe the comments of an impartial passenger, and I would have more respect for the preacher lady if she just apologized and said she was having a bad day, instead of minimizing her own actions and making excuses.

I agree. I went with my friend to see him in September. As someone said before something just doesn't fit right with them to me. She spoke to the crowd, but I thought she seemed a bit phony.

I trust Joel Osteen as far as I can throw him. Something about him just oozes "sleaze" to me. I know its his wife that has made the news, but I wouldn't be surprised if further down the road he is involved in some kind of scandal.

Just need to second Boston Tea Party. Lakewood was nowehere to be found during Katrina and Rita. First and Second Baptist, Catholic Charities, even the muslim groups in town, but nowhere was there any indication that Lakewood was doing a thing. I seem to recall even the news commenting on the fact. How many people could have stayed at the old Compac, like they did in Churches across the city.
