I'm looking into dinning at Victoria and Albert's with my mom. While we both would like to do the wine pairings to taste everything, we really don't drink that much. It would definitely be too much for us. Will they split one "order" between two glasses? I guess if they won't then one of use will just get it and share from the same glass.

Also, I'm not a huge fan of fish/seafood. Do the have other options for the fish/seafood courses? Everything looks so good so I would definitely be willing to try every course but I'm more curious then anything else. I've never had fish prepared at a level close to what's offered at V&A's so that is probably why it's not my favorite.

Thanks!

I don't know if they allow you to share the wine. That would not prevent you from tasting it from her glass, though. But, you should realize that each dish in each course has a different wine paired with it to complement the specific dish. So if you order different items from the same courses, the wine might not "match."

Also, I drink VERY little. I did the wine pairing the first time we went. I had to stop after two glasses. It would not do to be under the table at V&As. I would rather taste the food than the wine!

I'm looking forward to dining at Victoria and Albert's, but I doubt I would do the wine pairing. I like wine but not all wines...I don't care for most white wines. I do love sparkling wine, but only GOOD (translated=expensive) ones.
My husband doesn't drink at all (dull, huh?) so he definitely wouldn't be interested.

I don't have an answer about the wine, I may take a sip or two from Dh when we go. I was a little tipsy after the glass of champagne last year (but it was sooo good). As for the seafood- I would take a chance and not substitue ANYTHING. I am not a seafood fan at all, but everything we had was great. Dh and I have an ongoing joke whenever we eat out and its not so great, we just shake our heads and say "Victoria and Albert's".

According to previous posts, you CAN split the wine pairing. We plan on doing so when we go in June.

You could just pair a course or two and let them know your preferences. If you tell them you are not big into wine but wanted to try it, they will know exactly what to pick!! I love wine and drink a glass or two every evening....but the V&A wine pairing had me on my butt!!! It was GREAT wine but it was ALOT of wine!!! I loved every second of it!! Now, when you say you are not a big fan of fish/seafood does that mean you don't eat it at all? Most people don't like seafood/fish because it is not prepared well...this will NOT be the case at V&A. You would be cheating yourself by not trying some of it if you like at least some fish/seafood. However, you can swap out those courses....you can even choose from the vegetarian menu for those courses if you'd like...

HINT: Don't eat all of the bread!!! You'll be stuffed!! But do try a little of each one...they are EXCELLENT!!!

Tell them of any food allergies or preferences at reservation time and again to your server.
I would bet that your menu will have some delicious alternatives.
From previous posts they seem to go out of their way to insure that every diner is treated like royalty. We certainly feel that way when we eat there.

I did one glass of wine, which my server chose, and it was wonderful (and enough!).

V&A called us about a week prior to our reservation to ask about likes/dislikes/allergies. My d also doesn't like seafood, and I told them that. Her menu had alternative dishes for those courses; no seafood in sight. I am allergic to crab, but love seafood, so my seafood course choices didn't include crab.

There is also a vegetarian menu and you can choose anything off that for any course as well.

Enjoy!

Thanks for all the help everyone! I think I'm going to surprise my mom and I know she will love it!!! I think I'll try all of the seafood and fish. I really think my dislike is due to the poor quality I've had in the past. Also, I think we'll skip the wine pairings. I want to enjoy the meal, not be wasted by the end of it!
