We just ate at V & A's tonight. It was good - not $400 good - but ok for a 16-year anniversary dinner.

My question is, what happened to "Victoria" and "Albert"? We were there years ago and had two servers - a man and woman with nametags that read Victoria and Albert. Tonight we had SHAWN!! Why did they do away with this tradition?

Interesting, SLK. We just did Citricos tonight, but had pondered V&A's while planning our present trip. Ultimately the DW decided two "Citricos priced" experiences would be a "better value" with our pocketbook. I would still like to do V&A's just to experience it as we have never, but that's not too encouraging sounding!

Happy 16th; we're on our 17th together ... :lovestruc

I think that this is one of the very first reviews that I have read where this wasn't one of the best experiences a poster ever had dining. I am sorry that it was only good for you. We went last year and it was beyond amazing. Hopefully it's back up to amazing by February 2010!

As for Victoria & Albert, they did away with the tradition a few years ago. I wasn't around then, so I can't tell you why. Hopefully someone who's been there a lot will be by soon to answer that question for you!

Oh, don't get me wrong - it was very, very good. I think we both agreed though that it was better last time. And, I think we both have realized as we get older that food to us is a hassle - we love the service of course - but to pay that amount for something you eat and then it's over, well, given that we now have four kids, we realize that experiences with them is money better spent than food for ourselves. Just an opinion - I would never discourage anyone from going though!!!

I am SO glad to hear that the food was still wonderful.

I hear you on the cost. It is not in our normal budget either - at all. For us last April it was our 10th anniversary gift to each other (as well as supper). We had the DDE card and skipped the wine pairings, opting for water and two cocktails. The cost was about $250.

We're currently scrimping and saving DH's tip money from the shop that he works at to go again in 2010. :goodvibes

My wife and I just had a dinner alone which is unusual. We spent much of the time planning our Disney trip next year. Our kids are 5 and 9 and, especially the 5 year old, wants to do everything at Disney. They have little patience for restaurants that aren't geared for food and we both feel that, at this age, the Disney vacation is about them. So this trip will have a few TS meals but not as many as some previous vacations.

We did spend a few minutes thinking about when the kids are older and we can return to CG, AP, Jiko, etc.

Well I must say that my parents have enjoyed V&As for years. While they cant afford to go often, they probably have enjoyed it every 5 or 6 years. I must say the glazed look in my mom's eyes, the excitement prior to the trips, and the wistful remembrances have always left an impression on me. Therefore, last year with my (soon to be spouse) we went for the first time ever and simply enjoyed the best dinner of our lives. We decided then and there that we would make it a yearly experience. I am now planning our next trip for May. I hope that some day I can afford to take my parents with us as well. Until then we will, as my mother does, save our menus and memories.:cool1:

They got rid of the "Victoria and Albert" servers for 2 reasons:
1. Most comments they got on those names was negative--too much of a gimmick.
2. When folks would write or call later about the good service they got, many callers did not know who it was that waited on them!

You'll also notice that now, you might get two men or two lady servers--they often do not pair them off as in those old days.
