Via Napoli Pizza Window

If your from Chicago, a Pizza Window is no joke - we've got quite a few of them.

That being said, coming from Chicago I know I'm not getting the pizza I know and love when I am outside Chicago ( although I will conceed NY is a close 2nd! )

 I moved from NY to Chicago for three long pizza-free years. The first question I asked my classmates in Chicago was "Where can I get a slice around here?" Response: "A slice of what?" You simply cannot call anything you need to eat with a fork and knife, that you cannot pickup, bend in half and pop into your mouth real pizza! NY pizza is second to Chicago style pizza? Blasphamy!

Seriously, I started reading this thread because I said, Oh, Via Nap has a quick service of their inside food at a window....great!:rotfl:

I would say NJ pizza is #1 LOL.... and yes.. you know that is NOT what you are going to get in Disney.. for sure!!

Think about it in a different way. Disney is doing itself a disservice just as much. Anyone who was thinking about eating at Via Napoli and ends up ordering the counter service pizza first will certainly never try the inside restaurant. I've said that many times since the pizza window opened.

Very good point. That's why I'm wondering why the Patina Group is allowing this? They really should threaten to close down the restaurant unless Disney moves that garbage pizza window. That pizza is so bad it belongs at the ABC Commissary with the rest of the trash cuisine.

Except, of course, for the people who like the window's pizza. Despite all the complaining in this thread, I'm sure there are many who enjoy or even prefer the Sicilian-style slices.

Sicilian-style slices at the pizza window? There is nothing Sicilian about them. They are simply imitations of what one would expect if McDonald's decided to start selling pizza one day.

Just because a company is within their legal rights to do something doesn't mean that it is ethically correct. It is a bait and switch, clear as day. The onus should not be on the consumer to look at the pizza and then have to guess as to whether it is from Via or not. That's ridiculous. Absolutely ridiculous!!
Ethics only play a part of this if Disney intended to create a misleading situation. This is probably the stickiest point all around, what the intention behind that window was.

Personally, I put most of this debate into two camps:
The given is that customers wanted a take-out pizza window in Epcot. The suspicion that VN would have a take out window was opened up by the fact that the sister restaurant down at DLR has one (speaking of which, is the one at DLR operated in the same manner? e.g. is their window Disney pizza or Patina pizza?)

  1. Solution One: New building in appropriate Italy pavilion with extra space. Management company already on record they will not do take out pizza (this was mentioned quite a ways before VN opened). No new buildings (and thus permits, constructions, and health inspections) to build. Disney serves take-out pizza from this window.
  2. Solution Two: Disney sees a pizza place in Italy, and in order to capitalize on what is highly regarded as better, opens a window up in the same place to profit off of guests who fail to do research.

No matter how you swing responses, those are the core of either side boiled down. One said says it's not intentional, the other said says they did it to screw over their guests and should shut it all down.

Now, I'm also not naive enough to think that Disney isn't aware of this (at least by now), but I don't think the intent behind the opening of the window was as bad as some have made it out to be. Should they change it? Probably. Should they be sued, arrested, or otherwise held criminally or civilly liable for someone not bothering to ask a question? Not in my mind.

Also based on the responses I'm seeing, the OP has done a huge favor for a lot of people. Looks like a lot of folks who were planning on eating at the window, will not be. I will do everything in my power to shut this window down or have it changed. I'm going to start a group on Facebook as well. It's a disgrace!
Now, on the bolded point, I totally agree. While I wouldn't agree with the presentation, the end result is positive. The more information out there, the better.

Of course, it could have been presented much more neutrally and not stirred the pot. Of course, based on select posts, this could wholly have been the intention in the first place. (Along with select others to keep the pot well stirred).

As far as a crusade, have fun. While internet crusades and "Facebook Groups" are quite passe now a days (remember the old "Internet Petitions" yeah, I'm suspecting you'll get about as much done as those did...), I still wish you the best.

:wizard: Disney is actually a company that DOES take emails and petitions seriously. A few DISers have even gotten phone calls regarding their emails. Also, remember back when they weren't going to do a 25th Anniversary celebration for Epcot and look what happened ... ;) So, if this honestly bothers you, contact them. They DO listen! :thumbsup2

By the way, I got a call from the Patina Group about this situation this afternoon. They said they're aware of the problem and are working with Disney to resolve it.

Now I know why Disney responds to most guest correspondence with a canned email. :lmao: This is the most ridiculous thread I've read on these boards in a long time. Get some perspective folks ... it's only pizza, and not very good pizza at that. And I love pizza ... why with one pizza pie you can hit up numerous food groups and ruin your diet simultaneously!

Not sure what all of the fuss is about...the pizza window is run by Via Napoli. So, sign stays, hopefully lousy pizza goes!! :rotfl:

Had to read this for myself, thanks for the heads up Bendy:lmao:

:wave2: Totally OT, but I miss your Disney Dining reviews!

Continuing OT ... thanks so much! I'm still posting on my personal blog, but I was being given some pretty subtle and not-so-subtle hints that my reviews were no longer welcome here. So I took my toys and went home. :rotfl2:

A Via Napoli pizza window should serve Via Napoli pizza. Maybe smaller, maybe less variety, but the same basic pizza crust and sauce at least. I am glad I read this thread and know to avoid the CS. I would love to know how Disney was permitted to use the Patina restaurant's group name to serve substandard pizza.
